"Brick and Click" is a one-day symposium of practical relevance to directors, librarians and paraprofessionals supporting traditional and online resources/services for academic library users. The annual symposium has been hosted by Northwest Missouri State University since its inception in 2001.

Presenters receive a reduced registration fee ($100) to the symposium and an opportunity to publish a paper in the symposium proceedings.

• Standards and competencies for business information literacy
• Pedagogic approaches to business information literacy education
• Assessment of learning outcomes
• Integrating business information literacy in the curriculum
• Librarian / faculty collaboration
• New technologies for teaching business information literacy
• Business information literacy in multi-disciplinary contexts

DC-2009 will focus on linked data and the enabling of the Semantic Web. Conference
participants will explore the conceptual and practical issues in breaking the constraints of data
silos and connecting pieces of data, information, and knowledge. Metadata is a key to these
processes supporting publishing and interlinking structured data on the Semantic Web.
The basic assumption behind the concept of linked data is that the value and usefulness of data
increases the more it is interlinked with other data. There is a growing interest in the metadata
community in connecting existing and future data contained in silos within and across
organizations in a meaningful way that supports extraction and correlation of the data. The
linking of data from disparate data silos presents technical and social challenges that will be
explored at DC-2009 through full papers, project reports, posters, special sessions and
workshops.
Beyond the conference theme, papers, reports, and poster submissions are welcome on a wide
range of metadata topics, such as:
- Metadata principles, guidelines, and best practices
- Metadata quality, normalization, and mapping
- Conceptual models and frameworks (e.g., RDF, DCAM, OAIS)

Call for Papers:
Vancouver Island University is pleased to host the 2009 Child and the Book Conference for graduate students, in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, May 1-3, 2009. The keynote speakers will be noted scholars Perry Nodelman and Mavis Reimer. For conference information, see www.viu.ca/childandbook . The registration page will be posted shortly after the close of the call-for-paper deadline, as will a revised conference schedule.
We particularly invite proposals for papers exploring the conference theme, although all scholarly papers on topics related to children's literature will be given careful consideration.
The theme of this year's conference is This Land is Our Land, and we welcome proposals on the following topics:
• Children's literature and place
• Children's literature and heritage
• Children's literature and Indigenous Peoples
• Children's literature and ecology
• Children's literature and animals

We particularly invite proposals for papers exploring the conference theme, although all scholarly papers on topics related to children's literature will be given careful consideration.
The theme of this year's conference is This Land is Our Land, and we welcome proposals on the following topics:

Proposals for 20-minute presentations should be 250 words and should indicate texts to be discussed and the theoretical/critical framework underpinning your argument. Also include a separate brief biography for use by panel chairs when introducing presenters.

The Communication Review seeks a synthesis of concerns traditional to the fields of communication and media studies. The journal seeks works that contribute to new knowledge across conventional disciplinary boundaries: -Communication and Culture, probing the questions of producing meaning and interpretation by way of analyzing culture through the visual and dramatic arts, literature, sociology, anthropology, and in the interdisciplinary tradition of cultural studies.
-Communication as a Social Force, focusing on the historical development and contemporary transformation of media and communication,telecommunications, and information systems, emphasizing their political-economic, technological, and institutional dynamics.
-Communication and Mind, examining the individual socially constituted through language and other media in their cultural, social, and economic contexts.
The editors view these as different theoretical perspectives on the study of communication processes. We welcome proposals for presentations.
Recent years have seen an explosion of research and new insights into the material science of paper and paper-based collections. Understanding of the raw materials, their deterioration and conservation strategies have developed--alongside new strategies for dealing with the enormous legacy of paper.
This conference will bring together key workers in the field from major collections such as the British Library and the Library of Congress to academic researchers and commercial organisations. It is intended to publish the proceedings electronically on the British Library website.
We invite offers of potential contributions to the conference. Abstracts should be received by 22 December 2008 and finished papers received by 28 February 2009.
Conservation and care for the collections are undergoing major change at the British Library. A new state of the art Centre for Conservation and innovative robotic storage in a reduced oxygen environment were recently completed. These major advances in the care for the physical collections are competing with major challenges to deal with digital collections. It is an exciting time for the future of care and conservation in Libraries and Archives.

About the Editor
Jodi Poe comes to the Journal with more than 17 years of service in an academic library, and eight years of service in distance education. She is currently the Head of Technical Services at the Houston Cole Library at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. Prior to accepting the department head position in October, Jodi served as the distance education librarian at the Houston Cole Library for eight years.
During her tenure as a distance librarian, Poe has written numerous journal articles on distance learning and librarianship, which appeared in popular journals like The Journal of Access Services and the Journal of Interlibrary Loan, Document Delivery and Electronic Reserves. Additionally, Jodi co-authored a chapter in the book Going the Distance: Library Instruction for Off-Campus Students.

All Submitted papers will be reviewed using a double-blind (at least three reviewers), non-blind, and participative peer review. These three kinds of review will support the selection process of those that will be accepted for their presentation at the conference, as well as those to be selected for their publication in The Journal of Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics (JSCI) (http://www.j-sci.com/Journal/SCI/).
Authors of accepted papers who registered in the conference will have access to the reviews made to their submission so they can accordingly improve the final version of their papers. Non-registered authors will not have access to the reviews of their respective submissions.
All accepted papers where at least one author is registered in the conference will be included in the hard copy and the CD versions of the conference proceedings.

The best paper of each invited session will also be published in JSCI at no additional cost for the author. All Submitted papers will be reviewed using a double-blind (at least three reviewers), non-blind, and participative peer review. These three kinds of review will support the selection process of those that will be accepted for their presentation at the conference, as well as those to be selected for their publication in The Journal of Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics (JSCI) (http://www.j-sci.com/Journal/SCI/).
Authors of accepted papers who registered in the conference will have access to the reviews made to their submission so they can accordingly improve the final version of their papers. Non-registered authors will not have access to the reviews of their respective submissions.
All accepted papers where at least one author is registered in the conference will be included in the hard copy and the CD versions of the conference proceedings.

The best paper of each invited session will also be published in JSCI at no additional cost for the author. Invited session organizers will be co-editors of the proceedings volume where their session's papers are to be included, and they will be guest editors of the Journal issue where the best paper presented at their invited session has been included.

Business is everywhere. As a result, business information literacy is crucial to success in almost every aspect of daily life in academic, corporate or public library environments.
In this call for posters, the Business and Finance Division of SLA is providing an opportunity for business librarians to share ideas on this important topic. We are looking for case studies or practical applications on a wide range of issues including:
• Standards and competencies for business information literacy
• Pedagogic approaches to business information literacy education
• Assessment of learning outcomes
• Integrating business information literacy in the curriculum
• Librarian / faculty collaboration
• New technologies for teaching business information literacy
• Business information literacy in multi-disciplinary contexts
• Professional development for business information literacy
• Promoting business information literacy in the corporate environment
Help your colleagues learn from your work, both successful and unsuccessful. Share the results of your efforts at the upcoming poster session at SLA in Washington, June 2009.
