29th Annual Conference on The First-Year Experience session proposal submissions accepted through Oct. 19

February 12-16, 2010
Denver, Colorado

Quality proposals that sufficiently and seriously address college student transitions in the first-year of college are now being accepted for review. Concurrent session, roundtable discussion, and poster session proposals are invited on topics addressing the myriad aspects of the first year of college. For more information or to submit a proposal, please visit www.sc.edu/fye/events/annual/proposal.

The proposal deadline is October 19, 2009. You are strongly encouraged to submit proposals as soon as possible. Since the conference program must be finalized and presenters notified in time for preconference coordination, it may not be possible to accept late proposals. Selection criteria regarding acceptance for presentation for each session type are listed on the proposal submission web site.

Summit 2010: Mapping Our Future will be an occasion for building, inspiring, renewing and planning. We will examine each other's strengths, through case studies of services offered by individual libraries and other programs. We will discover "best practices" and fresh insights from speakers outside our profession, who offer us their knowledge and wisdom. We will remind ourselves of our commitment and dedication to our institutions and our customers. We will reconnect with each other and share these newfound aspirations and goals—our map for the future. The AALL Annual Meeting is an opportunity to connect face-to-face, to explore, and to consider opportunities for implementing new ideas.

Attendees of Summit 2010 will learn practical insights from colleagues who share similar experiences and situations and explore creative new ways of envisioning libraries and information services. We may ask challenging questions and empower ourselves to seek viable and imaginative solutions:

How do we build relationships that bridge divisions?
How do we sustain the networks we create?
Are information resources becoming "places?"
How will libraries' services transform as libraries themselves become more "virtual?"
What can we do to enhance the creation, design and flow of information?

All of you plan for the future. Every day, law librarians implement new ideas for building collections and improving information services. Law librarians have goals and dreams for a better tomorrow. We know that you will share these creative ideas, successful case studies, and perceptive visions with your colleagues.

CFP: ALCTS CCS Catalog Management Discussion Group (ALA Midwinter, Denver)

The ALCTS CCS Catalog Management Discussion Group invites proposals for presentations for our meeting at Midwinter in Denver. The group will be meeting on Saturday, January 24th, from 1:30-3:30. Our theme is Cataloging Born-Digital Materials.

We are particularly interested in local policies for cataloging printouts from PDF files and other internet sources. As more and more publications are released online instead of in print, many public service librarians find themselves "printing the web." How are catalogers providing access to these materials?

The charge of the Catalog Management Discussion Group is as follows: to discuss the various issues involved with cataloging, classification, and authority control after the initial cataloging has been performed. In this respect, catalog management is defined as the continuous upgrading and updating of a catalog, regardless of its format, be it card, microform, book or on-line. The group will provide a forum for exchanging information and discussing techniques, new developments, and problems in managing the bibliographic integrity of library catalogs.

Proposals are due by October 31, 2008.

Call for Papers for 2009 Conference in Denver, Jan. 20-23
Theme: Research Designs for LIS

Submit title and ~500 word abstract for papers describing emerging research methodologies, innovative research designs, and other imaginative research methods that have been or can be used in the LIS field.

Selection criteria: 3 papers will be chosen to represent a range of research topics. Final presentations should be 20 minutes long.
