The Program Committee of the Midwest Chapter of the Medical Library Association invites proposals for contributed papers and posters for the 2009 Midwest Chapter/MLA Annual Meeting in Columbus, Ohio from October 3-6 at the Hyatt on Capitol Square. The conference theme of Seek, Discover, Explore lends itself to a variety of topics, and provides opportunities for presenters to show how they endeavor to seek out new and improved ways to provide cutting-edge library services, to discover innovative techniques for using technology and the Internet, or to explore how libraries connect people to information in creative ways. Papers and posters may highlight practical problem-solving approaches, report on research in librarianship, document collaborative efforts or outreach activities, or describe innovative programs, resources or services. Contributed paper and poster topics are as unlimited as your imagination, talents and creativity can devise.

Contributed papers will be presented on Sunday, October 4 from 2 pm until 4pm.

Posters will be on display on Monday, October 5 from 11am until 5pm.

Presenters should be available to discuss their posters from 11am to noon on October 5.

For contributed paper proposals, submit a 250 word abstract to describe your paper. Include your name, position title, address, phone number and email address. The abstract should be sent to: Leslie Schick, University of Cincinnati Health Sciences Library, PO Box 670574, 231 Albert Sabin Way, Cincinnati, OH 45267-0574 or emailed to leslie.schick at uc dot edu.

For poster proposals, submit a 250 word abstract to describe your poster. Include your name, position title, address, phone number and email address. The abstract should be sent to: Linda DeMuro, Director of Library Services, Nationwide Children’s Hospital Library, 700 Children’s Dr., Columbus OH 43205 or emailed to Linda.DeMuro at NationwideChildrens dot org.

The deadline for abstract submission is May 31, 2009. Notifications of paper/poster acceptance/rejection will be made by June 30, 2009.

I am pleased to inform you that we are now accepting Call for Proposal applications for the 2009 National Streams of Language, Memory, and Lifeways Conference for Tribal Archives, Libraries and Museums to be held in Portland, Oregon October 19-22, 2009. You may either submit an online application through the conference website or download the application and mail a hard copy to:

To briefly update you the 2009 Streams Conference Planning Committee and I are working hard to make this a meaningful and affordable conference for everyone to attend. In the very near future we will have a Scholarship Application available with deadlines posted for those who could not afford to attend otherwise. In addition, we are hopeful to be able to offer continuing education credits which will be included in the registration process. As soon as this information is ready for distribution I will be in contact with you again. I look forward to meeting you in Portland!

CFP: KLA-MPLA Joint Conference "Libraries: Dynamic People, Places & Ideas"

Has your library solved a problem that still plagues others? Have you discovered or heard about a better way than the same old way it's always been done before? Do you have insight or data that would help libraries become even more effective? See clarity where others find only confusion? If so, please share your solution, discovery, insight, data, or vision by presenting at the 2009 KLA-MPLA Joint Conference "Libraries: Dynamic People, Places & Ideas,"which will be held April 1-3, 2009 in Wichita, KS at the Hyatt Regency and Century II Convention Center.

To propose a program or pre-conference simply submit the online program proposal form by Oct 31, 2008 (http://www.kansaslibraryassociation.org/displayemailforms.cfm?emailformnbr=94133). A committee of five academic librarians will review all academic track proposals in early November and send notifications of acceptance by the end of the month. This is a continuation of the peer-review/jury process that was successfully implemented last year to enhance incentives for presenting at KLA's annual conference.
