A poster session is a great opportunity to share an idea in progress or show other IUG members how your library did something well. We are interested in poster sessions on a variety of topics. If you need some ideas for what might be of interest to colleagues from other Innovative libraries, take a look at the Suggested Topics that have been compiled over the past few years and from the responses to the IUG 2008 meeting in Washington, D.C. You have the experience and ideas to share!! If you have an idea of your own and don't see it listed, please submit a proposal anyway.

Again, deadline for submitting Poster Session proposals is Friday, February 13, 2009. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the poster session proposal process.

IUG 2009 Proposal Form:
http://innovativeusers.org/login/

If you would like to present a program or two, but do not know what might be of interest to colleagues from other Innovative libraries, take a look at the Suggested Topics Page that have been compiled over the past few years and from the responses to the IUG 2008 Conference survey in Washington, D.C. You may find that you have the experience and ideas to share.

Remember, we aim for a variety of programs - basic to advanced, every library type, how you use various Innovative modules, and how you use other programs in conjunction with Innovative software. The topics list is not meant to be exhaustive. Some topics have been duplicated (as appropriate) under separate categories for your convenience. If you have
an idea of your own and don't see it listed, please submit a proposal anyway. You may also be interested in coordinating a panel discussion, but don't have all of the presenters lined up. It's perfectly fine to have some TBA's at this stage. The Program Committee can work with you
to help identify potential co-presenters.

If you have presented or coordinated at past IUG programs, please consider resubmitting a proposal for this year. Many comments from recent IUG conferences attest to the fact that it is impossible to attend every program that our users would like to hear, so it is always appreciated in having another chance to see popular programs. There are also a large number of regional user group meetings taking place this fall that offer an excellent variety of program offerings. If you are presenting in one of the regional conferences, please consider repeating your program at the annual meeting, so many more colleagues can learn from your experiences.

Again, deadline for submitting program proposals is Monday, November 3, 2008. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the program proposal process.

The Program Committee and I look forward to getting all of your great proposals!

SLA-SD Fall Seminar Call for Speakers

The San Diego Chapter of the Special Libraries Association is seeking speakers for our annual full-day professional development seminar to be held at Amylin Pharmaceuticals in San Diego on October 3, 2008.

The seminar theme is "Web Services: Embracing the Web as the Library's Core Service Space."

Please mark your calendar to attend the seminar and consider submitting a proposal to speak at the seminar.

Topics speakers may address include but aren't limited to:

* Web management: Content management systems, portals
* eCollections: eBooks, eJournals, collection development and assessment, vendor negotiation
* Website marketing: Embedding technologies
* Evaluating Web 2.0 tools: Choosing the best to implement among the ever-emerging range of prominent candidates

Especially, we're looking for speakers to cover:

* Practical applications (how-to) and not just theory
* Case studies demonstrating innovation and relevant to academic libraries, corporate libraries and other types of special libraries
* Impacts and metrics relating to using the Web as a library's core service space

Speakers discussing case studies will want to cover how initiatives came about, how they were implemented, what daily functioning looked like, benefits to all parties and lessons learned. Success is not required, as we often learn more from what went wrong.

Each speaker will have approximately 45 minutes, for her or his presentation and Q&A. Speakers may be invited to join a panel, in which case the time allotted may differ.

We encourage submissions from librarians and LIS graduate students working in all types of libraries. SLA membership is not required.

Would you like to serve as a speaker at the seminar?

If so, please send a proposal to sandiego.director@gmail.com by July 15.

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: ALCTS Networked Resources and Metadata Interest Group (ALA Annual)

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: ALCTS Networked Resources and Metadata Interest Group (ALA Annual)

Name: ALCTS Networked Resources and Metadata Interest Group
Event: Annual discussion and business meeting
Date: Sunday, June 29, 2008
Time: 8:00-10:00 (business meeting from approx. 9:15-10:00)
Place: Disneyland Hotel, North Exhibit Hall, Meeting Room B

The summer meeting of the Networked Resources and Metadata Interest Group at ALA Annual will consist of a discussion followed by a business meeting. The topic of the discussion is “IT Support in Cataloging Departments.”

In March of this year, Erin Stalberg from NCSU posed some questions on the metadatalibrarians list about the existence of organizational models which combine both metadata competencies and MARC competencies. The questions elicited few answers and much interest. We would like to devote our meeting time to an open discussion of issues such as technical competencies, metadata competencies, workflows which accommodate both Marc and other metadata schemas, and ways in which these skillsets can be brought into our departments and have them support all of our workflows.

Please contact me if you are interested in helping lead this discussion. I would like to have 2 or 3 people who can draw out questions from the audience and then help facilitate a discussion around them. This is not a formal presentation, rather a forum for exploring the ways in which technological skills and cataloging skills may be combined in an organizational structure.

If you have related questions which you would like addressed during the discussion, please send them along by replying directly to me. I will summarize for the lists.

Thanks.

Monterey, CA
Deadline: April 21, 2008

We're seeking presenters for our Internet@Schools West 2008 conference, to be held in Monterey, California, October 20-21, 2008. Sponsored by MultiMedia & Internet@Schools magazine, the conference covers practical and timely technology-related topics and technology-based tools and resources for K-12 media and technology specialists. It is held in conjunction with the Internet Librarian 2008 conference.

If you're somehow keeping up in this age of the participatory, "content creationary," interactive, 2.0 Internet and all that it offers educators and students! … and in the ongoing era of NCLB mandates, shrinking budgets, mushrooming lists of curriculum standards … not to mention all the new literacies—from information, to visual, to technology, to online social literacy—to teach to your students … then 1) you're remarkable, and 2) *we want to hear from you! Please consider volunteering to speak at Internet@Schools West.*

All speakers receive a full, complimentary registration to the Internet@Schools West and Internet Librarian 2008 conferences, plus great recognition from their peers. So think over your latest success stories or technology ventures and go to http://www.infotoday.com/Internet@Schools/CallForSpeakers.shtml.
