The 2010 Program Planning Committee (PPC) invites proposals and/or program ideas for pre-conference, vision, strategy, and tactics sessions. The Program Planners are interested in hearing from publishers, vendors, librarians, and others in the field of serials and electronic resources about issues relating to scholarly communication, publishing, licensing, and cataloging. Proposals based on both descriptive and experimental research findings are especially welcome. The Program Planning Committee will review all submitted proposals for their content and timeliness and may work with potential presenters to blend or refocus proposals to maximize their relevance to attendees and avoid duplication.

This Call for Proposals will close on September 25, 2009.
The Program Planning Committee hopes to notify applicants of the status of their proposals in December 2009.

CCQ welcomes the submission of research, theory, and practice papers relevant to the broad field of bibliographic organization.

This journal, published now 8 times a year by Taylor & Francis, LLC, is respected as an international forum that emphasizes research and review articles, description of new programs and technologies relevant to cataloging and classification, and considered speculative articles on improved methods of bibliographic control for the future.

Articles are particularly welcome in areas dealing with research-based cataloging practice, including user behavior, user needs and benefits.

The ALCTS CCS Catalog Management Interest Group invites proposals for presentations for our meeting at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago. The group will be meeting on Saturday, July 11th, from 1:30-3:30.

Topics for presentations are open, but must fit within the group's mission statement, outlined below:

To discuss the various issues involved with cataloging, classification, and authority control after the initial cataloging has been performed. In this respect, catalog management is defined as the continuous upgrading and updating of a catalog, regardless of its format, be it card, microform, book or on-line. The group will provide a forum for exchanging information and discussing techniques, new developments, and problems in managing the bibliographic integrity of library catalogs.

Reports do not have to be exhaustive, only informative. Please review the reports for the 2006 OLAC conference in the December 2006 newsletter, which can be found at http://www.olacinc.org under Newsletters, to get an idea of what is expected. Your report will be published in the OLAC Newsletter, with your name and affiliation credited in the byline of your report. For those on the tenure-track or in other positions where publication is expected, your report can be used as a publication credit in a non-peer reviewed library periodical.


Additionally, your report will help to inform those who were unable to attend the conference and to provide a record of what OLAC does to support and enrich the professional lives of its members.

Have you developed creative methods to deal with special format materials? Completed some research studies? Found an imaginative solution to a special format materials problem in your library? If so, why not consider sharing your expertise through a poster session at the
upcoming OLAC/MOUG conference to be held September 26-28, 2008 in
Cleveland, Ohio.

All applicants should complete the Poster Session Application form (see link below), and submit the completed form via e-mail (preferred), fax or postal mail to the Poster Session Coordinator. Applications will be reviewed by committee. Number of posters selected will depend on
available exhibition space. Applicants will be notified by August 1, 2008 whether or not their posters have been selected.

OLAC/MOUG provides the easels and tables; you provide the posters, graphics and handouts for your presentation. Presenters should plan to bring at least 50 copies of their handouts. Please make sure your contact information is on the handout. No network applications will be
available; however, you may bring a battery-powered laptop computer for your presentation. Presenters should plan to be present for the entire poster session time period.

The ALCTS CCS Heads of Cataloging Discussion Group is tentatively scheduled to meet during the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim on Monday, June 30, 2008, from 8:00 to 10:00 am. Please consider submitting a proposal for presentation and discussion. We invite cataloging managers in all types of libraries to submit proposals. In addition to discussing topics of current
interest, we offer an opportunity to share vacancy announcements in the group.

The charge for the discussion group is:
To discuss policy, implementation, quality control of bibliographic and authority records, work flow, personnel including supervision, motivation and other issues of concern to the members of the group. The group will provide a forum for discussing techniques and exchanging information.

The ALA Annual ’08 proposed topic for Heads of Cataloging DG session is:

“Perspectives on the state of cataloging education, hiring, and on-the job training as viewed by experienced cataloging librarians”

Possible presentation topics include but are not limited to: (1) Developing and implementing training plans for new cataloging librarians; (2) Minimum requirements for new hires (e.g., copy cataloging experience, cataloging internships, or cataloging experience while enrolled in a library science graduate program); (3) Cataloging managers’ perspectives on the state of cataloging education in graduate programs; and (4) Managers’ views on the ability to receive strong pools of candidates for entry-level cataloging positions.

The 2008 NASIG Annual Conference will be held June 5-8, 2008, at Tapatio Cliffs Hilton Resort, Phoenix, Arizona. The conference program will feature ideas and issues that relate to electronic resources, scholarly communication, serials, and publishing. Conference presenters will include publishers, librarians, subscription agents, and library systems vendors.

In order to prepare a comprehensive program, the Program Planning Committee is issuing a second and final call for program proposals. PPC welcomes submissions related to the following topics:
* Vendor/library relationships -- vendor responses to customers' suggestions
* E-resources -- licensing and perpetual access, e-books, print on demand, ERMS
* Collection management -- serials preservation (binding/reformatting/offsite storage)
* Digital collections -- institutional repositories, digital preservation, metadata outside the library
* Cataloging -- rda and serials cataloging, MARC local holdings, government publications issues
(batchloading, minimal records)
* Technology -- federated searching, OPACs – display issues and alternatives from the traditional systems, information seeking behaviors in electronic environments,
practical applications for current and emerging technology
* Needs and practices of non-academic libraries
* Personnel management -- supervision, workflow, training and retraining in libraries
* Serials and e-resources in the reference department
* Career development in serials

The Program Planning Committee will review all submitted proposals for their content, timeliness, and relevance to the conference theme and reserves the right to combine,
blend, or refocus proposals to maximize their relevance and to avoid duplication. In addition, the Committee will treat all submissions as suggestions and guideposts. Time management issues and reimbursement guidelines generally limit each session to two speakers. Also note that proposals may be suggested as one type of session and/or format and ultimately be accepted as any one of the other types of sessions or formats; this decision is the purview of the Program Planning Committee. Vision and Strategy speakers are required to produce a written paper for the conference proceedings. ALL presentations must be original and not previously presented at other conferences.

Because the education and training of catalogers concerns all types and sizes of libraries and information organizations, this call is for papers for a special issue of the Journal of Education for Library and Information Science (JELIS), the official scholarly publication of the Association for
Library and Information Science Education (ALISE), http://www.alise.org/publications/jelis.html). Papers should focus on education and continuing education in an age of Google, electronic resources, digital libraries, shifting standards, and metadata developments.

This issue of JELIS will supplement and extend the presentations at “What They Don’t Teach in Library School: Competencies, Education and Employer Expectations for a Career in Cataloging," a preconference during the American Library Association Annual Conference. This preconference at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. on Friday, June 22, 2007 is sponsored by the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services, ALISE, and the Library of Congress. Call for Book Chapters: Innovative Redeign and Reorganization of Library Technical Services

This is a call for book chapters for a new book titled _More... Innovative Redesign and Reorganization of Library Technical Services_. This book will be a companion book to the already published _Innovative Redesign and Reorganization of Library Technical Services: Paths for the Future and Case Studies_ (Libraries Unlimited, 2004). The editor is looking for interesting and provocative redesigns and reorganizations of library technical services, including reengineering of technical services staff for digitization and digital projects, training and new directions in non-MARC metadata projects and collaborations, redesigns and new foci for the presentation and searching of OPACs, reorganization of space and personnel in new and strategic directions, and combining staff functions and departments for greater efficiency and productivity, as examples. Case studies detailing how library organizations are flattening hierarchies, and combining both technical and public services in new and innovative ways are also encouraged. The editor is also interested in library organizations that are incorporating new types of leadership and motivational initiatives that are often seen in the business and corporate communities, such as ideas presented in books such as _Primal Leadership_. Opinion chapters on the future of technical services librarianship, or statistical information related to this area, are invited to submit a proposal as well.

Anyone interested in writing a chapter for this book should send a short proposal detailing what the chapter will be about, with title and authors, to the editor, by March 30, 2007. Final chapter drafts will be due to the editor by September 1, 2007. Please feel free to contact the

CFP: ALCTS Poster Session for 50th conference (Washington D.C., June 20, 2007)

The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) seeks proposals for a poster session to be held during the 50th ALCTS Anniversary Conference, June 20 and 21, 2007, in Washington, D.C. The poster session will be held Wednesday, June 20.

The ALCTS Conference, "Interactive Futures: A National Conference on the Transformation of Library Collections & Technical Services," will engage attendees in a thought-provoking, open, and participatory exchange on the transformation of our work and our profession.

In keeping with the conference theme, poster session proposals should focus on a transformative change or an innovation in any area of library collections or technical services work for monographs, serials, or electronic resources, whether in collection development and management, cataloging, acquisitions, or preservation. Poster sessions may document a change that has been implemented, or may suggest an innovation or describe a trend likely to affect change in the philosophy or practice of our profession.

This poster session offers a unique opportunity for beginning career librarians and veteran librarians, for library support staff, and for students, to address the future in which all attendees will work in a most stimulating setting. More than 250 attendees are expected; featured conference speakers are library leaders and provocative thinkers like Susan Nutter, David Lankes, Stephen Abram and Richard Lanham.

The deadline for poster session submissions is Monday, April 2. The ALCTS conference committee will review all submissions for appropriateness of theme, for quality of content, and for quality of presentation. Applicants will be notified by May 1.
