Bilingual reviewers needed (School Library Journal)
I am looking for bilingual librarians, fluent in English and Spanish, interested in reviewing Spanish- language materials for children. Please contact me at: mosquerafreda@aol.com . Subject: Reviewing for SLJ. Please include your full name, position, phone number, email, postal address and your experience evaluating children materials. Please do not send your replies to this list server.
Reviewers must have a full command of the Spanish-language and the ability to evaluate the quality of original materials and translations. Interviews will be conducted, in the evenings, over the phone, in Spanish. There is no monetary compensation. Reviewers keep the books they review as their compensation.
Reviews will be published in School Library Journal, monthly (July and August) and every other month (October and December.) These reviews will be also published on the Library Journal web site20as part of an effort to bring back CrÃticas reviews:

We're seeking presenters for our Internet@Schools West 2008 conference, to be held in Monterey, California, October 20-21, 2008. Sponsored by MultiMedia & Internet@Schools magazine, the conference covers practical and timely technology-related topics and technology-based tools and resources for K-12 media and technology specialists. It is held in conjunction with the Internet Librarian 2008 conference.

AASL seeks presenter for "Reading and the Secondary School Library Media Specialist" Institute
CHICAGO - The American Association of School Librarians (AASL), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), is now seeking a presenter for the "Reading and the Secondary School Library Media Specialist" institute. The deadline to apply to serve as presenter is March 14 at 4:30 p.m. CST.
The institute was designed to address critical topics in reading for library media specialists serving grades 7 to 12. The institute will engage the library media specialist in topics that impact student reading - including current research, reading strategies, current national legislation and essential reading lesson elements. Through this institute, attendees will expand their knowledge, confidence and understanding vital to their role as an instructional partner in developing reading fluency and meeting the needs of all their students.
The presenter will be responsible for presenting content, developed and supplied by AASL, to regions throughout the United States, starting at the 2008 ALA Annual Meeting in Anaheim, Calif., in June. Qualifications include:
-Experience as a library media specialist or with library media specialists in a 7-12 environment; -Appropriate background in reading literacy;
-Excellent communication skills;
-Experience presenting adult-centered educational programs;
-A solid and thorough understanding of the issues and challenges facing the school library media field in regard to reading and literacy; and
Ability to travel
The presenter's fee is $750 to $1,000 (contingent on qualifications and experience) per institute, plus travel, accommodation and a $50 per diem.
Applicants must submit a letter of interest that includes travel availability, resume and three references pertinent to this type of presentation by March 14. Strategies for Building Literacy Skills in School Libraries — For example, How can the school librarian use his/her library curriculum and instruction to develop reading and literacy skills among students? What reading and literacy skills can be”taught” in school libraries by school librarians? What are best practices for teaching these skills?
4. Support Reading Instruction — For example, how school libraries can provide resources for classroom teachers and staff support for literacy initiatives throughout the school, including collection development, literacy libraries, reader’s advisory, reading incentive programs.
5. Research Forum — For example, scholarly research about school libraries. Researchers are encouraged to discuss their research methodologies as well as the results.
Four types of presentations will be offered in this conference:
-Professional papers: Papers that describe and discuss the presenter’s work in relation to theory and/or practice.
-International Research Forum Presentations: Papers that describe the presenter’s research, either completed or on-going, in relation to the conference theme.
-Workshops/Demonstrations: Presentations that feature one or more persons working with a group to help them develop skills in a specific teaching or research technique.
-Poster Sessions: Description of practice or theory presented visually. Presenters are required to be present for a specific period of time in order to answer questions.
All proposals will be independently reviewed before acceptance. The Review Panel for the International Research Forum will be drawn from IASL members worldwide.
Criteria for Selection:
-Relevance to conference themes
-Clarity of description
-Intellectual significance
-Relevance to audience
-Originality
All proposals must be in English and submitted by 15 January 2008.

If so, REISL has several opportunities for to researchers, practitioners and doctoral students to share this work at the 2008 Annual Meeting REISL SIG of the American Educational Research Association (AERA).
The presence of school librarians is much needed in the larger education community. One way to accomplish this is by becoming a member of AERA. If you have a vested interest in school libraries, and are not currently a member of AERA, please help increase the voice of school library scholars by joining AERA. Regular membership dues are $120/year and Graduate Student Membership is $35/year. Also REISL SIG membership dues are $5 for one-year and $15 for three years. Do you have interesting work in progress you would like to share? Poster sessions are for you! Poster sessions introduce new or ongoing work, and the REISL audience provides valuable discussion and feedback. We are particularly interested in presentations of practitioner and doctoral student work. Separate sessions will be held for practitioners and doctoral students provided that enough proposals are submitted through the format required by the AERA (see below)
