Call for Papers and Posters: 2009 Midwest Chapter of the MLA Annual Meeting

The program committee of the Midwest Chapter of the Medical Library Association (MLA) invites proposals for contributed papers and posters for the 2009 Midwest MLA Annual Meeting in Columbus, Ohio from October 3 through 6, 2009 at the Hyatt on Capitol Square. The conference theme of "Seek, Discover, Explore" lends itself to a variety of topics, and provides opportunities for presenters to show how they endeavor to seek out new and improved ways to provide cutting-edge library services, to discover innovative techniques for using technology and the Internet, or to explore how libraries connect people to information in creative ways. Papers and posters may highlight practical problem-solving approaches, report on research in librarianship, document collaborative efforts or outreach activities, or describe innovative programs, resources, or services. Contributed paper and poster topics are as unlimited as your imagination, talents, and creativity can devise.

Contributed papers will be presented on Sunday, October 4, 2009 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Posters will be on display on Monday, October 5, 2009 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Presenters should be available to discuss their posters from 11 a.m. to noon on October 5, 2009.

For contributed paper proposals, submit a 250 word abstract to describe your paper. Include your name, position title, address, phone number, and email address. The abstract should be sent to: Leslie Schick, University of Cincinnati Health Sciences Library, PO Box 670574, 231 Albert Sabin Way, Cincinnati, OH 45267-0574 or emailed to leslie.schick@uc.edu.

For poster proposals, submit a 250 word abstract to describe your poster. Include your name, position title, address, phone number, and email address. The abstract should be sent to: Linda DeMuro, Director of Library Services, Nationwide Children's Hospital Library, 700 Children's Dr., Columbus OH 43205 or emailed to Linda.DeMuro@NationwideChildrens.org.

The deadline for abstract submission is July 31, 2009.

Notifications of paper/poster acceptance/rejection will be made by August 15, 2009.

Call for Papers and Posters

We are now soliciting submissions for contributed papers and posters and want to hear from you! Papers and posters may describe any research topic, case report, or practice of interest to the medical library community. Here is your chance to share your findings with colleagues, hone your presentation skills, and gain institutional and peer recognition for your work. We welcome your innovative ideas! Whether you are a seasoned presenter or a novice, we strongly encourage you to consider this opportunity. Presenters should be prepared to speak between 12-15 minutes. Note: contributed papers are oral presentations; a complete text of the paper is not required.

CFP: MLA News Technology Column (Medical Library Association)

Write an article for the MLA News Technology column in 2008! Writing provides a great opportunity to either share expertise you already have or delve into a topic you've been wanting to learn about.

Your column can be a topic review, a case study, or a report on the state of a technology. Recent topics: distance education applications, data mining, Web-based reference management tools, and library podcasts.

Some of the topics we're interested in for 2008:

- GIS for health information
- Responsible disposal or reuse of equipment
- The InfoButton
- Anatomy of a query URL: If I run it again tomorrow, will it still work?
- Productivity software: alternatives to Office

Your own topic suggestions are, of course, welcome as well. Maximum length: 700 words.

Northern Sydney Central Coast Health is pleased to be hosting the 2007 NSW Health Libraries Forum. The planning committee are looking forward to delivering a practical yet innovative event for those working in the health libraries of NSW. The forum will be held in the new Conference Centre at Gosford Hospital, 8-9 November 2007. In the coming months, this site will be developed to provide comprehensive information about the program, social events, accommodation and travel options.

From the Call for Posters: Consider presenting a poster, relating to the Forum theme "Focus on the User Environment: Techniques & Technologies". Suggestions for poster content include:

-highlight a Web 2.0/Library 2.0 tool that you are using, or considering using in your library (eg. blogs, wikis, social tagging)
-innovative ways to reach your clients
-propose a potential collaboration/partnership between NSW health libraries
-share new technologies that have made a difference to your users
-share methods for effective client feedback
-innovative service delivery - what is your library doing?
-report upon a recent conference you have attended
-has your library recently introduced a new service?
