Call for Presenters - Library Lesson Lab -- METRO Reference & Instruction Spring 2018 Meetups - Part I (NYC)

METRO Reference & Instruction Spring 2018 Meetups - Part I
Call for Presenters - Library Lesson Lab
Wednesday, May 16, 3:00-5:00 pm
The METRO Reference and Instruction Meetup is seeking librarians to facilitate short (10-15 minute) instruction activities or present 10-minute lightning talks on same.

What is one activity you haven’t quite been able to pin down yet, that addresses an important research skill or concept, but isn't quite where you want it to be? Or -- what is one new activity you're just excited to share?

Come exchange ideas and approaches with your peers, discuss lesson learned, and share constructive feedback!

Choose from two formats:
  • Facilitate or model teaching of a 10-15 minute library instruction activity
  • Present for 10 minutes on a single instruction strategy, approach, or activity, with or without slides

Possible student learning goals to be addressed:
  • Narrowing a broad topic to more researchable questions
  • Learning conventions of certain types of resources in the disciplines
  • Developing effective search strategies
  • Navigating search interfaces and discovery layers
  • Engaging your curiosity to drive the research process
  • Taking ownership of your research process
  • Or any others!
After sharing our lessons,we will discuss questions and challenges for implementation, as well as potential applications for different populations and contexts.

We will then work together to brainstorm and sketch out ideas for new activities, beginning with learning outcomes, and drawing on ideas from our discussion.
