The Off-Campus Library Services Conference is extending a formal invitation to librarians, administrators, and educators to present their research and share their knowledge with their peers. Individuals who provide library resources and services to students and faculty participating in instruction either away from a main campus or in the online environment are invited to submit a proposal. Through formal proceedings and the publication of Conference papers in the Journal of Library Administration, this information is made available to all who have an interest in this field.

Guidelines for Presenters

Please use the guidelines below when preparing a proposal for presentation to the 14th Off-Campus Library Service Conference. If you have any additional questions or need assistance, please contact us.

SUBJECT TRACKS
The following subject tracks are appropriate for this conference. It is understood that a presentation may fall into more than one track.
-Research
-Surveys, assessment, statistics, theories, overviews
-Teaching and learning
-Methods, strategies, models, one-on-one, classroom
-Electronic information and delivery
-E-books, databases, online tutorials, streaming video, virtual reference
-Collaboration
-Librarian, faculty, consortia, or other
-Administration and support services
-Program development, ILL, document delivery, reference management systems, collection development, budgets, staffing

FORMATS
Presentations
Presentation sessions should be 55 minutes in total length, with 10 minutes included for questions. Presenters are encouraged to use technological aids to augment their presentations. Online access and a laptop will be available in all rooms; please see our audio-visual request form if you need additional support. Presenters are encouraged to supply handouts or other materials as appropriate. Session evaluation forms may be provided at the discretion and expense of the presenters. A written paper that will be included in the official conference proceedings is required of all presentations. Please refer to the manuscript guidelines for proper formatting and other details.

Workshops
Workshops will be scheduled for two-hour sessions and should offer hands-on learning for the attendees. An abstract for the workshop must be presented for inclusion in the proceedings but no written paper is required.

Panel Discussions
Panel discussions should include several speakers and run a total of 55 minutes, with 10 minutes included for questions. A written paper is not required for the proceedings.

Poster Sessions
Posters sessions provide an informal forum to report innovative projects, introduce new services and resources, or test research ideas of interest to the off-campus library community. Posters may include narratives, tables, graphs, and handouts. They may be in print or electronic format or a combination of the two. Presenters must provide their own laptop if needed. Internet access will be available. Presenters are required to set-up and host their display for one hour and 10 minutes and to provide an abstract for the program. No written paper is required.

SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL
To submit a proposal, complete the online proposal form available from the link below. The deadline for submission is September 15, 2009.

EVALUATION AND ACCEPTANCE
After September 15, 2009, the OCLS Conference Program Advisory Board members will be provided with blind copies of the proposal abstracts. Proposals will be evaluated based on their potential interest to conference attendees, contribution to the body of knowledge associated with the field of off-campus library services, and their clarity of organization and expression. Program balance and room space will also be a factor in proposal selection. All presenters will be notified regarding their status of their proposals by October 15, 2009.

The joint OLAC-MOUG 2008 Conference in Cleveland, Ohio, is coming up in September. I'm still looking for conference reporters for the following sessions:

Reports do not have to be exhaustive, only informative. Please review the reports for the 2006 OLAC conference in the December 2006 newsletter, which can be found at http://www.olacinc.org under Newsletters, to get an idea of what is expected. Your report will be published in the OLAC Newsletter, with your name and affiliation credited in the byline of your report. For those on the tenure-track or in other positions where publication is expected, your report can be used as a publication credit in a non-peer reviewed library periodical.


Additionally, your report will help to inform those who were unable to attend the conference and to provide a record of what OLAC does to support and enrich the professional lives of its members.

upcoming OLAC/MOUG conference to be held September 26-28, 2008 in
Cleveland, Ohio.

All applicants should complete the Poster Session Application form (see link below), and submit the completed form via e-mail (preferred), fax or postal mail to the Poster Session Coordinator. Applications will be reviewed by committee. Number of posters selected will depend on
available exhibition space. Applicants will be notified by August 1, 2008 whether or not their posters have been selected.

OLAC/MOUG provides the easels and tables; you provide the posters, graphics and handouts for your presentation. Presenters should plan to bring at least 50 copies of their handouts. Please make sure your contact information is on the handout. No network applications will be
available; however, you may bring a battery-powered laptop computer for your presentation. Presenters should plan to be present for the entire poster session time period.

The Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International will hold its 12th Genealogical/Cultural Conference at the Holiday Inn Cleveland South – Independence. The dates are Wednesday October 14 through Saturday October 17. Ethnic area and research tours will be offered on Wednesday and Thursday. The next step in conference planning is seeking speaker candidates.

Beginning Genealogy and possibly a few “local interest” sessions will be offered on Thursday afternoon October 15th along with use of the Traveling Library and Vendor area. A total of 32 proposals will be chosen by our Selection Team for Friday and Saturday, with 4 simultaneous sessions offered over 4 time slots each day. The goal of the team will be to provide a balanced program based upon ethnicity and genre. All sessions will be 75 minutes in length.

The Cleveland area has one of the highest concentrations of persons of Slovak, Czech and Carpatho-Rusyn ancestry in the country. They still have a large number of ethnic organizations, including the Slovak Institute, First Slovak Catholic Union (Jednota), Cleveland-Bratislava Sister Cities, Sokol Greater Cleveland, Czech Catholic’s Karlin Hall, Carpatho-Rusyn Society – Cleveland Chapter, as well as Czech and Slovak radio programs. The city has definitely done a very good job maintaining its rich ethnic heritage.

Topics appropriate to this conference are numerous. Shown below is a list of potential subject matter:

-Computers in Genealogy (family tree programs, family web sites, etc.)
-Genealogy (ethnic specific, US, European, traditional, on-line)
-History of ethnic settlements, religious groups, churches, fraternal organizations
-Immigration history, Emigration history (push-pull factors), Military history
-Austro-Hungarian Empire history, 20th century history, prehistoric history
-Language (conversational, meanings / origins of surnames and place names, transcription)
-Folk art, Folk music, Folklore, Folk dance
-Modes of Transportation (in homeland, passenger ships, trains, steam boats, etc.)
-Ethnic press, newspapers, periodicals, newsletters
-Research institutions, Collections, museums
-Geography
-DNA studies
-Traditions (holidays, life-cycle, etc.)
-Cooking / baking
-Other

The information we require from speaker candidates includes: a title and one page summary for each presentation, and a speaker bio of no more than one page. We encourage speaker candidates located outside of the Greater Cleveland metropolitan area to submit more than one paper, because of the costs of travel and lodging to bring in speakers.

Speakers selected for the conference will receive a complimentary admission, that includes the Friday and Saturday lunches, and a free vendor table. A travel allowance and lodging will be provided to out of area speakers based on their individual situation.

If you require a speaking honorarium, please clearly state your requirements. Honorarium requests could lessen an applicant’s chance of being selected. The CGSI puts on a very high quality program, while attempting to maintain a reasonable registration rate for the public.

Conference Announcement and Call for Papers

The Association of Jewish Libraries, Inc. will hold its 43rd annual convention at the Cleveland

Marriott East in suburban Cleveland on June 22-25, 2008. Librarians, archivists, and scholars from numerous disciplines will meet to share their interest in Judaica librarianship and related areas.

AJL is soliciting papers dealing with any aspect of Judaica librarianship or scholarship as it pertains to libraries, archives, museums, schools, synagogues, and related institutions. Typically, this has included workshops, panel discussions, and presentations about literature and other resources, programming, reader advisory services, special collections, technical services, library administration, materials selection, collection development, cataloging and classification of Judaic materials, digital and electronic resources, and local Jewish history. Papers should be both educational and interesting.

Those wishing to participate in poster sessions are also invited to submit proposals.

Prospective presenters should submit an abstract by Nov. 1, 2007. The abstract should include the title of the presentation, a one-paragraph summary, the presenter's name, address, phone number, email address, institution, and a 25 word bio. If the presentation requires audio-visual equipment, please indicate the type of equipment that will be needed.
