CFP: Journal of Web Librarianship Issue on Library Intranets
The Journal of Web Librarianship is pleased to announce an upcoming special issue, "Library Intranets 2.0." Manuscript proposals are now being accepted!
Web 2.0 tools have dramatically increased opportunities for communication and collaboration in all areas of our online lives. Library literature abounds with accounts of how libraries are successfully using these tools to connect with users, but how are librarians and library staff leveraging 2.0 technologies to improve internal communication? This special peer-reviewed issue of the Journal of Web Librarianship focuses on use of 2.0 tools, technologies, and philosophies for creating organizational synergy via Web 2.0 intranets in all kinds of libraries.
Nina McHale, Assistant Professor and Web Librarian at the University of Colorado Denver, will be guest editing this special issue. She has experience in reference and systems, and prior to coming to Auraria Library, she held academic positions at Howard Community College (Columbia, Maryland) and Georgetown University. Her research interests include Web and Library 2.0, usability testing, user-centered design, and federated searching. She holds a joint MA/MSLS in English and library science from The Catholic University of America.
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
-identifying/creating best practices for internal information sharing (formats, workflow, access control, etc.)
-2.0 tools for improving internal communication
-use of open source software, i.e., Drupal, MediaWiki, for library intranets
-use of proprietary products, i.e., Microsoft SharePoint
-migrating intranets, managing content
-failed intranets: lessons learned
-2.0 buy-in and staff training
-spanning physical distances: connecting consortium members, branches, etc.
Query letters and preliminary proposals are welcome if potential authors would like to discuss their ideas with the editors. CFP Extended: Special Issue of the Journal of Web Librarianship on library websites
The deadline for a Special Issue of the Journal of Web Librarianship dedicated to Library Websites: Evaluation and Usability Studies has been EXTENDED to August 1, 2007. This issue will be edited by Professor Amanda Spink and Dr. Helen Partridge; all queries and submissions should be sent to them (see below).
Details: As more library services are delivered via library Websites, evaluating and measuring Website effectiveness, usability and success is critical for all libraries. Such studies are crucial for improving library Websites, enabling user-centered design and improving the quality, value and impact of library online services.
This special issue of The Journal of Web Librarianship seeks papers reporting empirical studies evaluating library Websites in any type of library environment. The methodologies used are not limited and may include quantitative or qualitative techniques, case studies, longitudinal studies, experiments, focus groups, surveys, questionnaires, interviews, or other research
designs. Papers may include the evaluation and testing of new user-centered measures.
Submission of Manuscripts
All submissions must be in English, should represent original work done by the authors, and must NOT have been published, accepted for publication, or be presently under consideration for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts should be prepared according to The Journal of Web Librarianship for Authors: http://www.lib.jmu.edu/org/jwl/
Reviews of the submitted manuscripts will proceed in accordance with The Journal of Web Librarianship editorial policy. Submissions should be by electronic transmission ONLY (using a Word file attachment) and must be sent to the guest editors.

CFP: Case Studies in Management and Finance in Academic Libraries (The Bottom Line)
The Bottom Line: Managing Library Finances is publishing a special issue of the journal on case studies in management and finance in academic libraries. We are especially looking for examples of reorganization, repositioning, and retraining of people and resources, as well as new initiatives and directions that required strategic thinking and risk taking in the areas of dropping traditional library roles and moving into new future digital environments (which may include
things like 3D information visualization, strategic collaborations across disciplines and organizations, etc.). If you think that you would be interested in submitting an article to this peer-reviewed special issue of this journal, please contact the editor directly (email given below). Any and all ideas for topics will be given consideration.
Article proposals will be accepted through February 1, 2007. Proposals need only include author name(s) and contact information, and a brief paragraph stating what the article will be about.
