Net Initiatives For Tough Times: Digital Publishing, Preservation & Practices
We live and work in challenging times. How can our digital practices solve our current dilemmas? Internet pioneer, Vint Cerf, who has been called one of the "Fathers of the Internet" and is currently VP & Chief Internet Evangelist at Google, believes that the Internet and WWW are still young, yet are "poised to become the greatest communications platform humanity has ever known." Cerf is the opening keynote speaker at Internet Librarian 2009 and begins the discussions of our conference theme, ‘Net Initiatives for Tough Times: Digital Publishing, Preservation & Practices.' The Program Committee of the Midwest Chapter of the Medical Library Association invites proposals for contributed papers and posters for the 2009 Midwest Chapter/MLA Annual Meeting in Columbus, Ohio from October 3-6 at the Hyatt on Capitol Square. The conference theme of Seek, Discover, Explore lends itself to a variety of topics, and provides opportunities for presenters to show how they endeavor to seek out new and improved ways to provide cutting-edge library services, to discover innovative techniques for using technology and the Internet, or to explore how libraries connect people to information in creative ways. Papers and posters may highlight practical problem-solving approaches, report on research in librarianship, document collaborative efforts or outreach activities, or describe innovative programs, resources or services. Contributed paper and poster topics are as unlimited as your imagination, talents and creativity can devise.
Contributed papers will be presented on Sunday, October 4 from 2 pm until 4pm.
Posters will be on display on Monday, October 5 from 11am until 5pm.
Presenters should be available to discuss their posters from 11am to noon on October 5.
For contributed paper proposals, submit a 250 word abstract to describe your paper. Include your name, position title, address, phone number and email address. Call for Poster Session Proposals: NASIG 2009
The NASIG Program Planning Committee (PPC) invites poster session proposals for the 24th NASIG conference in Asheville, North Carolina, June 4-7, 2009. The theme of the conference is "Riding the Rapids through Mountains of Change."
Posters will be on display 9AM-5PM on Friday, June 5th. Presenters should be available to discuss their topics during the afternoon break on this day. Submission form is online.
Poster sessions provide an opportunity to share innovative ideas and new applications of technology. Sessions may present a report of a research study, an analysis of a practical problem-solving effort, or a description of an innovative program that may be of interest to the
serials community. In keeping with NASIG's tradition of non-commercialism, poster sessions focusing solely on a commercial product will not be accepted.
Deadline for submission: Applications must be received by 5 p.m. EST on Friday, March 27, 2009. Members of the PPC's Sub-committee on Poster Sessions will evaluate abstracts. Presenters will be notified in April 2009.

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MARCH 30, 2009!!
The Rethinking Resource Sharing Initiative was started to advocate for a complete rethink of the way libraries conduct resource sharing in the context of the global internet revolution. In order to showcase resource sharing innovation, the Rethinking Resource Sharing Initiative has created an award to encourage libraries and librarians all over the world to make changes in how they do resource sharing and improve service to users.
Up to three winning submissions will be awarded a cash prize of $1,000 each. Recipients will be announced at the Rethinking Resource Sharing Forum 2009 on May 13 and 14, 2009 in Dublin, OH. Funding for the 2009 Innovation Awards is provided by the Alliance of Library Service Networks www.librarynetworks.org, a group of U.S. independent regional networks that includes Amigos, BCR, FEDLINK, ILLINET, INCOLSA, MINITEX, MLC, MLNC, NELINET, Nylink, OHIONET, PALINET, SOLINET, and WiLS. The Nebraska Library Commission is also a member.
To be considered for the award, please submit a description of the user-centric service change you have made that has improved resource sharing in your library, consortium or state. Full details for submission can be found at www.rethinkingresourcesharing.org.

Evidence Based Library and Information Practice announces new Associate Editor
Evidence Based Library and Information Practice announces new Associate Editor
The journal Evidence Based Library and Information Practice (EBLIP) is pleased to announce that Scott Walter has joined the Editorial Team as an Associate Editor. Scott is the Associate University Librarian for Services and Associate Dean of Libraries at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He brings a wealth of experience to our team, having served on the boards of several LIS journals. He is actively involved in professional activities, notably with the Association of College & Research Libraries, and he has an extensive record of publishing his own research. Scott will be responsible for Classics and a new section called Using Evidence in Practice.
The new Using Evidence in Practice section of the journal features brief reports of LIS practitioners' use of evidence to assist with decision making. The section follows a structured format to report practical implementations of an evidence based approach to tackling workplace problems. Have you followed an evidence based approach in your daily work? Have you begun a new project and incorporated assessment to measure outcomes and success? Have you tried to incorporate evidence but not had any success? All of these scenarios lend themselves to a retelling that may benefit others. Please consider writing about your experience and submitting it to EBLIP.

EBLIP is a peer reviewed, open access journal published quarterly by the University of Alberta Learning Services, using the OJS Software. The journal Evidence Based Library and Information Practice (EBLIP) is pleased to announce that Scott Walter has joined the Editorial Team as an Associate Editor. Scott is the Associate University Librarian for Services and Associate Dean of Libraries at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He brings a wealth of experience to our team, having served on the boards of several LIS journals. He is actively involved in professional activities, notably with the Association of College & Research Libraries, and he has an extensive record of publishing his own research. Scott will be responsible for Classics and a new section called Using Evidence in Practice.
The new Using Evidence in Practice section of the journal features brief reports of LIS practitioners' use of evidence to assist with decision making. The section follows a structured format to report practical implementations of an evidence based approach to tackling workplace problems. Have you followed an evidence based approach in your daily work? Have you begun a new project and incorporated assessment to measure outcomes and success? Have you tried to incorporate evidence but not had any success? All of these scenarios lend themselves to a retelling that may benefit others. Please consider writing about your experience and submitting it to EBLIP.

EBLIP is a peer reviewed, open access journal published quarterly by the University of Alberta Learning Services, using the OJS Software. The purpose of the journal is to provide a forum for librarians and other information professionals to discover research that may contribute to decision making in professional practice. EBLIP publishes original research and commentary on the topic of evidence based library and information practice, as well as reviews of previously published research (evidence summaries) on a wide number of topics.
