Call for Poster Sessions: Greater New York Chapter of the Association of College and Research Libraries

The 2009 ACRL/NY Annual Symposium, “Emerging Leadership in Libraries” focuses on the importance of leadership in academic libraries today and the paths to achieving and sustaining it. This Symposium will address myriad questions of leadership: What does it take to be a leader? How do we mentor leaders within our institutions? How do we take charge of our own career paths? How do we move into leadership roles? We will open up discussions of leadership across the different stages of librarianship.

ACRL/NY invites you to submit a poster session proposal for the Symposium. It can address any issue related to this theme. Examples follow:

Professional collaboration

Management styles in libraries

Motivating/inspiring librarians

Getting yourself published

Experience in leadership development

Mentoring/mentoring programs

Creating new roles

Moving into leadership roles

Promoting yourself



Please email a 100-200 word description of your poster session proposal to Symposium Planning Committee member Gloria Meisel at gloria.meisel@sunywcc.edu by October 20, 2009. Include author name(s), email and telephone contact numbers, and the title of the poster session. Presenters will receive a reduced Symposium registration rate.

The successful candidates will be notified by early November. You will be expected to set up by 8:15 am and stay through the final poster session time of 2:45. There is no wireless capability and no availability for electronic sessions. Posters cannot be displayed on walls or big boards. The size of the tables will be posted shortly.

The 2009 MLA Conference will be held November 3- 6 in Lansing. Poster Sessions will be from 12 p.m.- 4 p.m. on November 4 and 5 in the Lansing Center Exhibit Hall. Poster sessions provide an opportunity for individual librarians or libraries to share graphic representations of current research, programs or creative solutions to library problems. Presenters are given a one hour time slot during the conference to present posters, answer questions, and give away handouts relating to the session. Accepted presenters will be notified by July 31, 2009

Call for Poster Session Proposals: NASIG 2009

The NASIG Program Planning Committee (PPC) invites poster session proposals for the 24th NASIG conference in Asheville, North Carolina, June 4-7, 2009. The theme of the conference is "Riding the Rapids through Mountains of Change."

Posters will be on display 9AM-5PM on Friday, June 5th. Presenters should be available to discuss their topics during the afternoon break on this day. Submission form is online.

Poster sessions provide an opportunity to share innovative ideas and new applications of technology. Sessions may present a report of a research study, an analysis of a practical problem-solving effort, or a description of an innovative program that may be of interest to the
serials community. In keeping with NASIG's tradition of non-commercialism, poster sessions focusing solely on a commercial product will not be accepted.

Deadline for submission: Applications must be received by 5 p.m. EST on Friday, March 27, 2009. Members of the PPC's Sub-committee on Poster Sessions will evaluate abstracts. Presenters will be notified in April 2009.

CFP: ACRL Women’ Studies Section Poster Session

The Women's Studies Section will hold its second annual Research Poster Session during our General Membership Meeting at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago on Saturday, July 11, 2009, from 4:00-5:30 p.m. The forum seeks to provide an opportunity to present newly completed research or work in progress. Both beginning and established researchers are welcome to apply. Participants may receive collaborative feedback and recommendations for future publishing and/or new initiatives.

The potential scope of the topics includes, but is not limited to, teaching methods, instruction, information technology, collection development, interdisciplinarity, and collaboration with academic faculty. Attendees at the forum will find an arena for discussion and networking with their colleagues interested in related issues and trends in the profession.

The committee will use a blind review process.

Do you have something interesting to show your colleagues? Or perhaps you solved a unique or sticky problem? If so, then a poster session is for you. All types of libraries and all librarians, staff members and Library Science students are invited to participate at the 2008 Michigan Library Association Annual Conference in Kalamazoo. Sessions for poster presentations will be located near the exhibit hall, which should generate great traffic to your presentation.

Guidelines for the poster session:

* Poster sessions can introduce unique collections or services, discuss a problem and the research, action, or methodology used to solve that problem, or outline findings of research or study.
* Displays should be visually appealing (charts, photographs, diagrams, graphics, illustrations, etc.) and should clearly state the purpose of the display. Displays should also be large enough to be seen from several feet distant.
* Presenters should also bring handouts or other supplementary materials (no duplication services will be provided) and a sign up sheet to record names and addresses of attendees who would like further information. An ample supply of business cards are also encouraged.
* A tack board panel measuring 4 x 6 feet mounted on a freestanding easel or tabletop will be provided.
* There will also be table space for participants to place handouts or other supplementary material.
* One author must be present at all times to answer questions from conference attendees.
* Displays must be set up 15 minutes prior to the assigned time and taken down within 15 minutes after the session. Once assigned, your time will not change

Basically, poster sessions are an opportunity to informally present graphics and text about work you have done or are doing.

Usually posters are 4' x 8' or smaller - and in this case, must be self-standing (this location will not be providing boards for display). If you supplement your poster with computer graphics or other technology, you will need to bring your own projection equipment, laptops, etc.

Members of the Joint ACRL CJCLS-CLS-DLS Program Committee will be evaluating submissions on an ongoing basis through March 30, 2008.

Be a Part of PLA’s Virtual Conference with Virtual Poster Sessions


Share Your Library’s Successes and Challenges

PLA is seeking interested parties to submit virtual poster sessions as part of the upcoming PLA Virtual Conference. The topic of your poster session can be of your choosing, but must be related to public librarianship. Virtual posters can be submitted as Web pages, PowerPoint presentations, or other formats which can be “mounted” on the Web. Accepted posters will be mounted on the PLA Virtual Conference Web site prior to the event (the PLA Virtual Conference will be held on March 27 and 28 during the PLA 2008 National Conference). Presenters are also welcome to participate in online discussions about their posters via the Virtual Conference.

To apply, please send an email to Kathleen Hughes detailing your idea. Please include the following: Primary Contact Name, Phone Number, Email Address, Job Title and Institution, Names of Additional Contributors, Title of Proposed Virtual Poster Session, Brief Abstract (150-200) words describing your poster session, Format of Virtual Poster (e.g. .doc, .html, .pdf) and if any special files/software/effects will be incorporated. CALL FOR POSTER SESSION PROPOSALS (NASIG Annual Conference)

The NASIG Program Planning Committee (PPC) invites poster session proposals for the 23rd Annual NASIG conference in Phoenix, Arizona, June 5-8, 2008. The theme of the conference is "Taking the Sting Out of Serials." Posters will be on display 9:30-5:30 on Friday, June 6th. Presenters should be available to discuss their topics during two break periods during this day.

Poster sessions provide an opportunity to share innovative ideas and new applications of technology. Sessions may present a report of a research study, an analysis of a practical problem-solving effort, or a description of an innovative program that may be of interest to the serials community. In keeping with NASIG's tradition of non-commercialism, poster sessions focusing solely on a commercial product will not be accepted. Additional guidelines for poster sessions are available:

Deadline for submission: Applications must be received by 5 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 15, 2008. Members of the PPC's Sub-committee on Poster Sessions will evaluate abstracts.

ACRL Women’ Studies Section Poster Session Proposal

The Women's Studies Section will hold its first annual Research Poster Session during our General Membership Meeting at the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA, Saturday, June 28, 2008, 4:00-5:30 p.m. The forum seeks to provide beginning and established researchers and librarians an opportunity to present research or work in progress, and receive collaborative feedback and recommendations for future publishing and/or new initiatives.

The potential scope of the topics includes, but is not limited to, teaching methods, instruction, information technology, collection development, interdisciplinarity, and collaboration with academic faculty. Attendees at the forum will find an arena for discussion and networking with their colleagues interested in related issues and trends in the profession.

The committee will use a blind review process.

Selection criteria:

1. Significance of the topic. Priority will be given to Women’s Studies Section members and/or women’s studies topics.

2. Originality of the project.

A poster session is a great opportunity to share an idea in progress or show
other IUG members how your library did something well. We are interested in
poster sessions on a variety of topics. If you need some ideas for what
might be of interest to colleagues from other Innovative libraries, take a
look at the Suggested Topics Page that have been compiled over the past few
years and from the responses to the IUG 2007 meeting in San Jose. You have
the experience and ideas to share!! If you have an idea of your own and
don't see it listed, please submit a proposal anyway.

Again, deadline for submitting program proposals is Tuesday, January 22,

Sub-themes:

1. Digital Literacy — For example, digital libraries, digital resources related to reading, specialized strategies and techniques for “reading” online text, images and multimedia.

2. Building a Community of Readers — For example, book clubs, literature circles, collaborative reading projects.

3. Strategies for Building Literacy Skills in School Libraries — For example, How can the school librarian use his/her library curriculum and instruction to develop reading and literacy skills among students? What reading and literacy skills can be”taught” in school libraries by school librarians? What are best practices for teaching these skills?

4. Support Reading Instruction — For example, how school libraries can provide resources for classroom teachers and staff support for literacy initiatives throughout the school, including collection development, literacy libraries, reader’s advisory, reading incentive programs.

5. Research Forum — For example, scholarly research about school libraries. Researchers are encouraged to discuss their research methodologies as well as the results.

Four types of presentations will be offered in this conference:

-Professional papers: Papers that describe and discuss the presenter’s work in relation to theory and/or practice.
-International Research Forum Presentations: Papers that describe the presenter’s research, either completed or on-going, in relation to the conference theme.
-Workshops/Demonstrations: Presentations that feature one or more persons working with a group to help them develop skills in a specific teaching or research technique.
-Poster Sessions: Description of practice or theory presented visually. Presenters are required to be present for a specific period of time in order to answer questions.

All proposals will be independently reviewed before acceptance. The Review Panel for the International Research Forum will be drawn from IASL members worldwide.

The Education and Behavioral Sciences Section Research Committee is holding its second annual Research Poster Session and Discussion Forum during the second ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA, Saturday, June 28, 2008. The forum seeks to provide beginning and established researchers an opportunity to present research in progress, and receive collaborative feedback on their work and recommendations for future publishing. Research/posters will be simultaneously presented and discussed in small informal groups.

Attendees at the forum will find an arena for discussion and networking with their colleagues interested in research-related issues and trends in the profession.

The committee will use a blind review process.

Selection criteria
Proposals will be evaluated based on the extent to which they:

1. Measure and/or investigate library and information aspects in the fields of communication, psychology, social work and education.

2. Represent an original research project.

3. Clearly identify what stage in the research project has been completed and estimate a timeline for the remainder of the project.

4. Represent the current interest to the membership of EBSS.

Note: Research that has been previously published or accepted for publication by December 1, 2007 will not be considered.
