The Off-Campus Library Services Conference is extending a formal invitation to librarians, administrators, and educators to present their research and share their knowledge with their peers. Individuals who provide library resources and services to students and faculty participating in instruction either away from a main campus or in the online environment are invited to submit a proposal. Through formal proceedings and the publication of Conference papers in the Journal of Library Administration, this information is made available to all who have an interest in this field.

Guidelines for Presenters

Please use the guidelines below when preparing a proposal for presentation to the 14th Off-Campus Library Service Conference. If you have any additional questions or need assistance, please contact us.

SUBJECT TRACKS
The following subject tracks are appropriate for this conference. It is understood that a presentation may fall into more than one track.
-Research
-Surveys, assessment, statistics, theories, overviews
-Teaching and learning
-Methods, strategies, models, one-on-one, classroom
-Electronic information and delivery
-E-books, databases, online tutorials, streaming video, virtual reference
-Collaboration
-Librarian, faculty, consortia, or other
-Administration and support services
-Program development, ILL, document delivery, reference management systems, collection development, budgets, staffing

FORMATS
Presentations
Presentation sessions should be 55 minutes in total length, with 10 minutes included for questions. Presenters are encouraged to use technological aids to augment their presentations. Online access and a laptop will be available in all rooms; please see our audio-visual request form if you need additional support. Presenters are encouraged to supply handouts or other materials as appropriate. Session evaluation forms may be provided at the discretion and expense of the presenters. A written paper that will be included in the official conference proceedings is required of all presentations. Please refer to the manuscript guidelines for proper formatting and other details.

Workshops
Workshops will be scheduled for two-hour sessions and should offer hands-on learning for the attendees. An abstract for the workshop must be presented for inclusion in the proceedings but no written paper is required.

Panel Discussions
Panel discussions should include several speakers and run a total of 55 minutes, with 10 minutes included for questions. A written paper is not required for the proceedings.

Poster Sessions
Posters sessions provide an informal forum to report innovative projects, introduce new services and resources, or test research ideas of interest to the off-campus library community. Posters may include narratives, tables, graphs, and handouts. They may be in print or electronic format or a combination of the two. Presenters must provide their own laptop if needed. Internet access will be available. Presenters are required to set-up and host their display for one hour and 10 minutes and to provide an abstract for the program. No written paper is required.

SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL
To submit a proposal, complete the online proposal form available from the link below. The deadline for submission is September 15, 2009.

EVALUATION AND ACCEPTANCE
After September 15, 2009, the OCLS Conference Program Advisory Board members will be provided with blind copies of the proposal abstracts. Proposals will be evaluated based on their potential interest to conference attendees, contribution to the body of knowledge associated with the field of off-campus library services, and their clarity of organization and expression. Program balance and room space will also be a factor in proposal selection. All presenters will be notified regarding their status of their proposals by October 15, 2009.

Call for Papers/New Editor Announcement: The Journal of Library & Information Services for Distance Learning welcomes the submission of manuscripts for review and possible publication.

The Journal is now under the new Editorship of Jodi Poe, Head of Technical Services, Houston Cole Library, Jacksonville State University (Jacksonville, Alabama). Jodi was previously Distance Education Librarian at Houston Cole Library for 8 years.

About the Editor
Jodi Poe comes to the Journal with more than 17 years of service in an academic library, and eight years of service in distance education. She is currently the Head of Technical Services at the Houston Cole Library at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. Prior to accepting the department head position in October, Jodi served as the distance education librarian at the Houston Cole Library for eight years.

During her tenure as a distance librarian, Poe has written numerous journal articles on distance learning and librarianship, which appeared in popular journals like The Journal of Access Services and the Journal of Interlibrary Loan, Document Delivery and Electronic Reserves. Additionally, Jodi co-authored a chapter in the book Going the Distance: Library Instruction for Off-Campus Students.

Introduction

We live at a time of enormous realignments in the use of media. Each day
more information can be retrieved from the Internet. The world is not one of
knowing how to access and manage information rather than storing and
processing it. In the area of literature, ever more information on literary
production is being disseminated and retrieved in electronic form. This has
considerable consequences for the form and use of such information. It also
has consequences for learning and research environments at educational
institutions. Today’s popularization of modern technologies has allowed
scholars in the Humanities, including literature specialists, to access an
array of novel opportunities in the digital medium, which have brought about
an equal number of challenges and questions. In spite of the vast amount of
information now at hand, very little has been provided for the advance of
literary education.

Objective of the book

This volume aims at providing a deep probe into the most relevant issues in
literary education and digital learning. The chapters will be organized into
two categories: research and education. The first group will collect studies
investigating the impact of technologies in literary research. Its main aim
is to understand how computers and other new technologies may help scholars
investigate literary works in novel ways, thus bringing new perspectives to
the area. The second group will look into the potential of applying distance
learning methods/concepts/environments to the field of literature. In other
words, it will collect contributions on how these resources may be used by
scholars and students either inside or outside regular classrooms, provided
that these classroom applications are not accounts of experience but based
on research. In sum, the volume will offer a survey of how digital literary
education has developed, where it stands now, how research in this area has
progressed, and what the prospects are for the future.



Target audience

This volume will be of interest to those interested in digital
learning/teaching and/or literature, especially in the university context.
This book will also interest literature professionals who would like to see
how digital learning works in practice. In addition, the book will be highly
valuable to those researchers in the field interested in keeping abreast
with current developments in the confluence of their fields of expertise and
technological settings.

Submission procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before May 30,
2008, a 2-4 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and
concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will
be notified by July 31, 2008 about the status of their proposals and sent
chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by October
31, 2008. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review
basis. This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea
Group Inc.), publisher of the “Information Science Reference” (formerly Idea
Group Reference) and “Medical Information Science Reference” imprints. For

'Web 2.0' (O'Reilly, 2005 - http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/oreilly/tim/news/2005/09/30/what-is-web-20.html), epitomised by such nascent technologies as blogs, wikis, RSS, podcasting, as well as tag-based folksonomies, social networking, collaborative editing and peer-to-peer (P2P) media sharing applications, is purported to be redefining the way we conceive and make use of the Internet, and is enjoying considerable attention and popularity in both mainstream society and in education spheres. Its advent and continued growth may have specific implications for the field of online and web-based distance education.

Submissions are invited for an internationally peer-reviewed Special Issue of the Turkish Online Journal of Distance Education (TOJDE) on the use of Web 2.0 and social software in distance education.

Questions/themes that are of interest in this Special Issue include but are not limited to the following:

* Does Web 2.0 represent a major conceptual or paradigm shift in how we conceive and make use of the Internet as a means of delivering teaching, learning and assessment? Are they the just the same old technologies in shiny new wrapping, or do they actually have anything new to offer us in the way of improving and/or enhancing the way we teach, learn and assess at a distance? How to avoid coasting on fashion and falling prey to a 'technology-driven pedagogy' (Salaberry, 2001)?
* Is the emergence of Web 2.0 changing the culture of, and/or redefining the competencies that are needed by, distance education teachers and learners?
* Does Web 2.0 have the potential – more so than its predecessors – to address the traditional issues/challenges faced by the field of distance education, and if so, how can this potential be best harnessed? How can the technology be used to capitalise on the unique strengths and opportunities of distance education?
* What are existing examples of 'best practice' and 'good principles' in this area, if any, and how can we learn from them?
* What are the major issues facing institutions in terms of strategy, policy and infrastructure for Web 2.0-enhanced distance education? What are the implications for teachers and learners?

Scholarly articles in the form of reports of empirical/evidence-based research are sought for publication in this Special Issue pending favourable review. Meta-analyses, as well as case studies or reports of works-in-progress supported by a sound theoretical foundation and incorporating an extensive literature review, will also be considered.

All articles will be evaluated for originality, significance, clarity and soundness. Successful contributions will not focus merely on the technology or the technical aspects of Web 2.0-based distance education applications, but rather will engage deeply with pertinent questions and issues from a pedagogical, social, cultural, philosophical and/or moral/ethical perspective.

Approximately 7 to 11 papers will be selected for this 4th Special Issue of TOJDE.
