ALA Midwinter Reports for Library Hi-Tech News
Here is another publishing opportunity to cover meetings and discussion groups that you are attending at the ALA Midwinter Meeting beginning at the end of this week in Philadelphia.
Library Hi-Tech News (LHTN) always has a conference compilation and we seek input from a variety of librarians about anything having to do with technology applications in all kinds of libraries. There are many sessions sponsored by both LITA and other Divisions scheduled at this conference that would interest our readers both in North America and abroad about new products, methods, implementations, ideas, or anything else you glean and we hope that you will choose to cover what is of greatest interest to you and submit to us by February 19. It would be very helpful to know whether we can expect a submission from you. Submissions from multiple contributors for the same session or content will be streamed and included, as there are often different viewpoints that are of interest to us.
Contributions should be significant in that they should not only be descriptive but evaluative, critical, comparative and indicate the timeliness, relevance and importance it has to Library IT, as well as include what you found most interesting or disappointing and what kind of experience you have with this topic or product, etc.
Please send submissions as an attachment in MS Word to Julia Gelfand (jgelfand@uci.edu.) by Feb 19 to be included in the April 2007 issue.
LHTN is both a print and online publication, on the Emerald database.

Call for Participation: Digital Library Technologies Interest Group (DLTIG) at ALA Midwinter 2008
The Digital Library Technologies Interest Group (DLTIG) will meet in Philadelphia on Sunday, January 13, 2008 from 10:30AM to 1:00 PM. The meeting will provide discussion on the upcoming DLTIG annual meeting program in Anaheim, CA titled Institutional Repositories, Mass Digitization, and Preservation; a regular business meeting; and a Share Online Stuff (SOS) open forum for participants to demonstrate innovative projects and programs.
The SOS part of the meeting, will provide an open forum for participants to share short demonstrations (5/10 minutes) of innovative digital library projects and programs with attendees. In addition to sharing new digital initiatives, it is hoped this will spark discussion on program ideas for 2009 ALA annual conference in Chicago.
While an open forum, I’m asking LITA members who want to present at the DLTIG meeting in to send to me by email descriptions and titles of demonstrations. I would like to get a feel of the number of you who are willing to share the merits of your library staff’s digital services with other ALA members.

CFP: ALCTS CCS Heads of Cataloging Discussion Group (ALA Midwinter)
The ALCTS CCS Heads of Cataloging Discussion Group is tentatively scheduled to meet during the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia on Monday, January 14, 2008, from 8-10 a.m. Please consider submitting a proposal for presentation and discussion. We have included the charge for this Discussion Group below. In addition to discussing topics of current interest, we offer an opportunity to share vacancy announcements in the group.
Charge: To discuss policy, implementation, quality control of bibliographic and authority records, work flow, personnel including supervision, motivation and other issues of concern to the members of the group. The group will provide a forum for discussing techniques and exchanging information.
The ALA Midwinter ’08 proposed topic for Heads of Cataloging DG session is: “Interaction—How Cataloging Departments cooperate with other departments of the library?”
Possible presentations would include reports on what impact the cataloging departments may have on other departments in the library and their functions. We would like to have cataloging managers, ideally representing various types of libraries (academic, national, public, and special), to talk about their cataloging departments' interactions with those departments (e.g., ILL, circulation, systems, collection development, acquisitions).
