CFP: 38th Annual LOEX Conference

CFP: 38th Annual LOEX Conference
April 29 – May 1, 2010
Dearborn, Michigan

The Michigan LOEX Committee invites you to submit proposals to be considered for presentation at the 38th Annual LOEX Conference, April 29 – May 1, 2010 in Dearborn, Michigan. The conference theme, Bridging and Beyond: Developing Librarian Infrastructure, spans the information literacy landscape, looking for the best in library instruction.

Presenters are encouraged to develop unique and creative proposals related to the theme. Proposals should showcase effective and innovative practices, provide useful information that participants can use at their libraries, support collaboration, and be as applicable as possible to a wide range of academic institution types. Successful proposals reflect elements of one of seven themes:

* Structural Supports: Assessment and Evaluation focuses on the use of peer evaluation, evaluating instructional tools, assessing student needs and learning, and judging information literacy initiatives.

* Infrastructure: Designing Enhanced Learning Spaces looks at how specially designed spaces improve and/or impact information literacy or instruction initiatives.

* New Materials: Innovative Use of Instructional Technology examines ways new technology is being utilized in the classroom. This track can include looking at the building, implementation, or maintenance of technology in the classroom.

* Expansion: Utilizing Nontraditional Instruction Methods asks presenters to show the unique ways they approach information literacy. The emphasis is on creative teaching strategies, curriculum designs, and engagement exercises.

* Bridges Near and Far: Forming Innovative Collaborations showcases connections with others to further information literacy initiatives. Connections and collaboration can be of all sorts, including within the library or library system, within the campus community, or with connections located off-campus.

* Removing the Tolls: Employing Effective Leadership illustrates the different ways leadership can eliminate barriers to create an improved environment for information literacy initiatives.

* Reinforcements: Curriculum Lesson Plans “to Go“ has the presenter share a proven lesson or unit plan, including processes and materials. Session participants should be able to go back to their respective institutions and readily implement the lesson plan.

SESSION FORMATS

Two types of proposals will be accepted.

* Presentation: A 60-minute session that includes time for a 45-minute presentation and 10-15 minutes of question and answer. Most feature a successful program, practice or key issue related to instruction or information literacy. Presentations are intended for an audience typically of 50-70 people. Presenters should include in the proposal description the topic and an outline of the presentation.

* Interactive Workshop: A 60-minute session where the presenter facilitates a learning environment in which attendees develop or explore teaching and/or research techniques. Presenters are expected to facilitate a well-planned and interactive session. Workshops are intended for an audience typically of 30-60 people. Proposals should include a description of the topic and details on how the presenter will make this session a “hands-on” experience for attendees.

In addition, there will be Poster sessions. Students currently enrolled in a Master's program in library and information sciences along with librarians in resident or intern programs will be invited to propose poster sessions. Details about proposing poster sessions will be posted in a separate call for proposal.

SUBMISSION INFORMATION

Proposals must be received by November 20, 2009. Proposals only can be submitted through the online submission form. The primary contact on the proposal will be notified if the proposal has been accepted for presentation by Friday, January 15, 2010.

Call for manuscripts: New Literacies (Peter Lang Publishing)

One of the premier education publishing groups, Peter Lang Publishing is
looking for works that understand how new literacies and new ways of seeing
education are being invented -- as people from all walks of life, in diverse

features, translating them into educational consciousness and practice.
These texts should explore in depth and from a range of perspectives the
extent, nature, and implications of new literacies in global context,
challenging familiar ways of framing education, and what it means for
education to be powerful, effective, and enabling under current and
foreseeable conditions.

We wish to encourage and support new, early-career authors as well as
established scholars.

We welcome single-author manuscripts as well as edited collections which
examine and engage with the current concerns of education, educators,
students, learning, especially how technology has impacted education.

Topics of particular interest are:

* critical pedagogy/ies
* literacy/ies and technology/ies
* education and disability
* the history of schools and schooling, particularly institutional histories
* education and innovation

CFP: Journal for Computing Teachers (JCT)

CFP: Journal for Computing Teachers (JCT)

JCT is published under the auspices of the Special Interest Group for Computer Teachers (SIGCT) in the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). The primary mission of SIGCT is to enhance precollege instruction in computer science. JCT accepts manuscripts for possible publication in two ways – editor reviewed and peer reviewed.

In the “editor reviewed” process, articles are reviewed by the editor. In the “peer-reviewed” portion of the journal, manuscripts are acknowledged by the editor upon receipt and, after a preliminary review to judge their appropriateness for JCT, are sent to at least two members of the Editorial Review Board. Following the completion of the review process, the editor contacts the author(s) to accept the paper for publication, to accept the paper conditional on the completion of any recommended revisions, or to reject it.

Submission topics include but are not limited to:
• Academic and research articles relating to the teaching of computing in K-12 education
• Pedagogical articles describing and explaining the rationale for some teaching practice, approach, or lesson
• Theoretical articles explaining or arguing particular principles or models of learning, teaching, curriculum development, content perspective-taking, etc.
• Explanatory articles providing teachers with professional development information, e.g., understanding hardware and software (TCP/IP, worm/virus operation, file systems, etc.), conceptual understanding (e.g., encryption, XML), etc.
• Reports concerning computing (e.g., curriculum and policy recommendations)

For information about the journal and submission guidelines for authors, go to http://www.iste.org/JCT. Potential authors do not have to be members of ISTE or SIGCT to publish in JCT. Submission deadline for fall 2008 issue is September 1, 2008.

Also, members for the Editorial Review Board for the Journal for Computing Teachers (JCT) are sought. The quality of JCT is reliant upon thorough outside reviews from qualified professionals.

IMPORTANT DATES:
Full papers due: February 15 2008
Authors receive reviews: February 29 2008
Final papers due: April 4 2008
Anticipated publication: May/June 2008

The Australian Library Journal has been published since 1951. Published quarterly, it contains a wide coverage of Australian library issues. It is the acknowledged flagship publication of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). The journal is available through subscription.

ISSUE FOCUS
This special issue is seeking papers on any aspect of information literacy within community and workplace contexts. Information literacy refers to the ability to access, evaluate and use information from a variety of sources. Whilst information literacy has rapidly become an object of scholarly interest in the education and the library and information science disciplines, the majority of this interest has been confined to educational settings. Little research has been conducted exploring information literacy within the community or workplace setting. According to ALIA, information literacy can contribute to learning for life, personal and professional empowerment, social inclusion, participative citizenship and innovation and enterprise. The Alexandria Proclamation on information literacy and lifelong learning argues that information literacy is a basic human right. This special issue of ALJ will provide a forum to identify, share and develop the issues relevant to information literacy within workplace and community settings. Contributors to the special issue may like to consider the following questions to guide the development of their submissions:

Submissions of 3000-5000 words should be emailed in Word format to the special issue editor, Helen Partridge at h.partrdige@qut.edu.au

CFP: Information: Interactions and Impact (i3)

CFP: Information: Interactions and Impact (i3)
25 - 28 June 2007, The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland
http://www.i3conference.org.uk

i3 is concerned with the quality and effectiveness of the interaction between people and information and how this interaction can bring about change in individuals, organisations, communities and society. The conference will look beyond the issues of use and accessibility of
technology to questions about the way people interact with the information and knowledge content of today's systems and services, and how this might ultimately affect the impact of that information on individuals, organisations and communities.

We invite the submission of high quality papers that report original research or critically discuss underlying methodological issues associated with the main themes of the conference: the quality and effectiveness of user/information interactions (e.g. information literacy); patterns of information behaviour in different contexts; impact of information or information services on people, organisations, communities and society (e.g. social, learning, cultural and economic
outcomes of engagement with information).

Submission of abstracts are invited for Full Papers, Short Papers,
Posters and round table discussions. Full details of the submission
requirements are available at http://www.i3conference.org.uk/call.htm .

Contributors should submit abstracts electronically by downloading the
online submissions form, located at:
http://www.i3conference.org.uk/AbstractSubmissionForm.doc . This should
then be emailed (as an attachment) to i3submissions@rgu.ac.uk . The
conference language will be English.

All abstracts should be submitted by 22nd January 2007. Notification of
acceptance will be emailed in early March.

Authors who are accepted to give Full Papers at i3 are also invited to
submit their paper for publication in a special issue for Libri
(http://www.librijournal.org). The final copy of full papers for Libri
should be received by 1st August 2007. Acceptance of a paper for the
conference does not necessarily mean acceptance of the full paper for
publication.
