CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS
The Research and Statistics Committee of the Reference Services Section of RUSA invites the submission of research projects for presentation at the 16th Reference Research Forum at the 2010 American Library Association Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.
The Reference Research Forum continues to be one of the most popular and valuable programs during the ALA Annual Conference, where attendees can learn about notable research projects conducted in the broad area of reference services such as user behavior, electronic services, reference effectiveness and assessment, and organizational structure and personnel. All researchers, including reference practitioners from all types of libraries, library school faculty and students, and other interested individuals, are encouraged to submit a proposal.

The Committee employs a blind review process to select three projects for 20 minute presentations, followed by open discussion. Winning submissions must be presented in person at the Forum in Washington, D.C.
Criteria for selection:
• Quality and creativity of the research design and methodologies;
• Significance of the study for improving the quality of reference service;
• Potential for research to fill a gap in reference knowledge or to build on previous studies;
• Research projects may be in-progress or completed;
• Previously published research or research accepted for publication will not be accepted
Proposals are due by Monday, January 4, 2010. Notification of acceptance will be made by Monday, February 8, 2010. The submission must not exceed two pages. Please include:

The Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), announces a call for nominations for the 2008 Emerald Research Grant Award.
Two $5,000 cash awards, donated by Emerald Group Publishing Limited, will be given to ALA members seeking support to conduct research in business librarianship. Emerald Group Publishing Limited, established in 1967 with headquarters in Bradford, England, is the world’s leading language publisher of academic and professional literature in the fields of management, library services and engineering.
"Business Librarians are curious and entrepreneurial professionals," said Jennifer Boettcher, BRASS Development Committee chair. "I am sure the results of the research will benefit the field of librarianship in public and academic business collections, education, or community development."

The RUSA CODES Materials Reviewing Committee is asking for suggestions for speakers at its proposed program for the 2008 ALA Annual Conference. The following is the abstract of this Program:
“The program will look at reviewing sources for materials that are not covered in the traditional reviewing sources and at alternative sources for all types of reviews. Potential topics include reviews for web resources and electronic databases, genre fiction, graphic novels, alternative press publications, gray literature, and other formats. One speaker might also talk about review sources on the Web with a focus on alternative resources.”
Please email me if you would like to volunteer or have names to suggest. The Committee would also invite any potential speakers or anyone interested in helping with the program to attend its ALA committee meeting that will take place on Saturday, June 23 at 10:30 am in California Room of the Capital Hilton.

Saturday, June 23th from 10:30 to 12:30 at ALA Annual, the RUSA-MARS Hot Topics in Electronic Reference Discussion Group will host a session entitled: "Libraries2Go: Library Services for Handhelds." The session will feature 3 presentations followed by a question and answer and group discussion period. We are looking for speakers from all types of libraries to showcase their innovative delivery of services using handheld devices such as cell phones, PDAs, iPods, etc.
