CFP: Encyclopedia of Virtual Worlds and Environments
We would like to invite you to consider contributing your expertise to a forthcoming book edited by me and Prof. Harrison Yang of the State University of New York at Oswego, entitled Encyclopedia of Virtual Worlds and Environments. This encyclopedia will include a variety of contexts and cover anthropological, psychological, pedagogical, sociological, and so forth approaches from both empirical and theoretical works on virtual worlds and environments. It will serve as a research reference, a pedagogical/informational guide, and a primary source in the area of virtual environments.
The coverage topics include, but are NOT limited to, the following:
Conceptual and Theoretical Perspective (issues and trends of virtual environment theories; chronicle reviews; modeling, design and strategies; etc.).
Types of Virtual Worlds and Environments (Collaborative Virtual Environments (CVEs) and/or Multiuser Virtual Environments (MUVEs); Immersive Virtual Environments (IVEs); Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MORPGs); Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs) and/or Massively Multiplayer Online [Games] (MMOs); Multiuser Domains (MUDs); and MUD Object Oriented (MOOs); etc.).
Platforms/Sites/Products of Virtual Worlds and Environments (Active Worlds; Barbie Girls; Club Penguin; Forterra Systems; Gaia Online; Habbo Hotel, Kaneva; Neopets; Second Life; The Sims Online; Teen Second Life; There; Whyville Zwinktopia; etc.).
Interface and Hardware Aspect (visual; tracking; auditory; primary use input (such as glove, body suit, exoskeleton, track ball, and 3-D mouse inputs, etc.); tactile; kinesthetic; full-body motion; and olfactory interface technologies; etc.).
Virtual Communities (behavioral, psychological, and cognitive issues of online users; community of practice; personal relationships; social interaction and exchange; legal and ethical considerations; etc.).

Should you accept this invitation, we would like to kindly ask that, on or before November 30, 2009, you submit via e-mail a 2-3 page article proposal clearly explaining the mission and concern of your proposed article. Should your proposal be accepted, you will be notified by December 31, 2009. Full articles of 1,500-3,500 words are expected to be submitted by February 28, 2010. Authors are required to follow the Full Article Submission Instructions when preparing their full articles. All submitted articles will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this encyclopedia. The book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global, www.igi-global.com, publisher of the IGI Publishing, Information Science Publishing, IRM Press, CyberTech Publishing, Information Science Reference, and Medical Information Science Reference imprints.

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTORS The Encyclopedia of Women and American Popular Culture
Facts on File, a New York-based academic and reference publisher, is seeking contributing scholars for a two-volume reference work on the history of women in America popular culture from colonial times to the present. The project is aimed at the academic high school and undergraduate levels.
The encyclopedia will include articles on individuals, organizations, themes, events, ideas, works of art and literature, and more. Alphabetically arranged entries cover popular-culture and women’s history subjects— film; television; music; dance; radio; comics and graphic novels; visual and performing arts; festivals; technology; cyberculture and online social networking; video games; sports and recreation; fashion and appearance; advertising; consumer products (including toys and games); buzzwords, expressions, and symbols; transportation and travel; and food and diet.
Articles will vary in length from 500-2,500 words for entries on specific topics. Encyclopedia of Women and American Popular Culture will also include a number of ancillary features, including a detailed bibliography and filmography.
We are seeking contributors for articles. All contributors will receive full authorial credit, a modest cash honorarium and/or copy of the full encyclopedia set (depending on contribution length and contributor preference).
If you are a graduate student, Ph.D. candidate, professor, or independent scholar interested in contributing to this exciting and important reference project—one we hope will be the definitive reference work on women’s roles in and contributions to the popular culture—we would be happy to email you a prospectus with a full description of the project—with deadline, compensation, and other pertinent information. Call for Contributors: Seas and Waterways of the World encyclopedia
ABC-CLIO is currently producing, under the editorship of John Zumerchik, an encyclopedia entitled Seas and Waterways of the World: A Historical Encyclopedia of Transportation and Trade. There are a number of entries still to be written, and we are looking for qualified individuals to write on a variety of topics.
The entries will take a multidisciplinary historical approach to sea-dependent commerce, covering the aquarium, cruise, energy, fishing, insurance, mining, trade, transportation, recreation, and sport industries. Included will be significant coverage of bodies of water,
harbors, ports and coastal development since access to the waterfront has always had a significant influence on local and national economies. There also will be coverage of the more macro themes such as the rise and fall of the Erie Canal as the gateway to the Midwest, and the rise and recent problems faced by the Panama Canal.

We are inviting academic editorial contributors to the Encyclopedia of Global Business, a new 4-volume reference to be published in 2008 by Sage Publications.
This comprehensive work will be marketed and sold to college, public, and academic libraries and includes some 1,200 articles, covering all aspects of the world of business and related disciplines in the social sciences, including terms and practices, profiles of countries and companies, and international business organizations. We are now making assignments with a deadline of May 15, 2008.
Each article, ranging from 500 to 5,000 words, is signed by the contributor. The General Editor for the encyclopedia is Jan Katz, Ph.D., Cornell University, who will review all the articles for editorial content and academic consistency.
If you are interested in contributing to the encyclopedia, it can be a notable publication addition to your CV/resume and broaden your publishing credits. Payment for the articles are honoraria that range from a $50 book credit at Sage Publications for article submissions totaling 500 to 1,000 words up to a free set of the finished encyclopedia (a $600 value) for contributions totaling 10,000 words. More than this, your involvement can help assure that credible and detailed data, descriptions, and analysis are available to students of business issues.
