Who is hosting this exhibition?
CMU Libraries, in collaboration with the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Libraries, are creating a community virtual exhibit that conveys the impact of flooding and big water events in Mid-Michigan on the people who live in this area.
- We will be accepting submissions March through May.
- The exhibition will launch in September of 2021.
What is the purpose of this exhibition?
This exhibition will highlight the impact that large water events in Mid-Michigan have had on individuals or groups including their experiences, thoughts, feelings, and responses.
- Big water events include floods, rainstorms, pollution, water quality, erosion, or other incidents involving the rivers, lakes, streams, and water supply in Mid-Michigan.
- May include but is not limited to recent flood events in 2017 and 2020.
Who can submit to the exhibit?
- People of all ages may submit works of art or research that depicts the impact of recent big water events on the people who live in
Mid-Michigan. - We welcome submissions from those who have been directly impacted by these events and those who have not.
- All submissions should provide insight into how these extreme water events impacted at least one person.
- All members of the Mid-Michigan community are welcome and encouraged to submit work as all members of the community have been impacted and have a story to tell.
What kind of works will we accept?
Original works in any medium or area of research.
- Written or spoken words such as journalism or poetry
- 2D such as painting, drawing, photography, or mixed media
- 3D such as sculptures, fiber art, or 3D printing
- Audio-visual such as video or podcast
- Recorded performances of original works such as music or dance.
- Any combination of the above
