Submissions are being accepted on an ongoing basis for upcoming issues of Catholic Library World.

Catholic Library World is the official journal of the Catholic Library Association. Established in 1929, CLW is an international refereed quarterly journal. CLW publishes articles that focus on all aspects of librarianship, especially as it relates to Catholicism and Catholic Studies. CLW articles are intended for an audience that is interested in the broad role and impact of various types of libraries, including, but not limited to academic, public, theological, parish and church libraries, and school libraries. CLW respects diverse Christian traditions as well as non-Christian and welcomes relevant articles from a variety of religious traditions.

The preferred method for submitting manuscripts is as a word-processed attachment in e-mail. Author’s full name, affiliation, and e-mail address must accompany any manuscript submission.

Articles should provide something new to the existing literature. The word count should be 3500- 5000 words and should adhere to The Chicago Manual of Style (humanities is preferred). The style should be accessible and well-documented.

Access 2012 Call for Proposals (October 18-21, 2012 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada)

The theme for Access 2012 is discovery/découverte:

We want to talk about new ways of doing things, how technology might encourage serendipity in the library and help our users get to the information they need.
We want to talk about new ways of weaving together and providing access to information, resources and services.
We want to talk about ways for the library to use technology to discover things about its communities and how they use their collections and services.
We want to talk about discovering new roles for the library technology folks to play in their libraries, on their campuses and in their communities.
We want to talk about dark discoveries, the spotting of cracks in the foundations, the sighting of monsters beyond the edge of the map…

We are now looking for submissions in the following areas:

Hackfest projects: Problems meet solutions during the full-day hackfest on October 18, 2012. Please submit a brief overview of the project you’d like hacked/like to hack.
Ignite talks: Do you have something you want the rest of the community to discover? Prep a deck with 20 slides, and give yourself 5 minutes to tell your story, then wow us something new. Please submit a title for your talk, a brief overview of your talk, and let us know if you’ve ever done an ignite/pecha kucha talk before.
Presentation “classic style”: These are your traditional “tell us about your awesome discovery” sessions, only now with a twist. We want the newest and freshest takes on getting things done. Please submit a title and an abstract (max 250 words) for your talk. All presentation submissions will be peer-reviewed by a panel of your colleagues. (The review will use a blind selection process.)

Call for contributions to column in the Journal of Electronic Resources Librarianship

The latest "E-Resource Round Up" column for volume 24, number 3 of the Journal of Electronic Resources Librarianship (JERL) is currently in preparation and the column editors are looking for contributions. If you've attended a conference or program recently or plan to attend upcoming conferences/programs related to electronic resources in libraries, please consider submitting a report for the column.

The "E-Resource Round Up" column is dedicated to helping JERL readers better understand topics related to the ever-changing world of electronic resources and their roles in libraries. It covers developments in the areas of new and emerging technologies and systems related to electronic resources and the digital environment; reports from professional discussion groups, meetings, presentations, and conferences; news and trends related to electronic resource librarianship; tips and suggestions on various aspects of working with electronic resources; opinion pieces; vendor activities; and upcoming events of potential interest to JERL readers.

Your contribution to the column does not have to be lengthy, and could be on any of the topics listed above. This could be an ideal opportunity for you to report on programs that may benefit others in our profession.

The editors would like to receive contributions to the column by Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Contributions should not be published elsewhere.

Call for Speaker(s) for the OLAC Membership Meeting at ALA Annual (2012 - Anaheim)

OnLine Audiovisual Catalogers, Inc. (OLAC) is an international organization for catalogers concerned with all types of nonprint materials. Through conferences, workshops, publications, and e-mail lists, catalogers exchange information and enjoy expert & practical advice on cataloging audiovisual materials.

The OLAC Executive Board is sending a call for a speaker or panel of speakers to present a brief discussion on a current hot topic in the cataloging and metadata communities as it affects audiovisual and nonprint media cataloging. Possible topics might include: RDA, FRBR, library linked data, non-MARC metadata, or other, but with a focus on the AV/nonprint formats.

The 30-45 minute presentation or discussion would be held during the OLAC Membership Meeting at the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, California, on Sunday, June 24th, between 4:00-5:30pm in the Sheraton

Park Hotel (SHERP-Park BC). The presentation will directly follow the general membership meeting agenda.

Special Theme: Evaluation, Critique, Prizes, and Peer Review What are the best and newest methods for creating, evaluating, and disseminating scholarly and creative work? This question motivates the next issue of NANO. As digital formats help to foster new ways to share and critique written and artistic work, as more people try to squeeze through the narrowing bottleneck of publishing, approval, and jobs, something has to give, or at least change.

Four guiding questions:

1. How have changes to the university, to scholarly publishing, and to digital publishing formats changed peer review? Will changes to peer review change the nature and methods of scholarship?

2. How have creative contests in the fields of poetry, short story, painting, sculpture, or design changed in terms of evaluation, prizes, and prestige?

3. What can the humanities learn from other disciplines in terms of evaluation and peer review?

4. How can we solve some of the current problems?

Possible Topics:

Call for Proposals: LITA Lightning Round Presentations at ALA Annual

Are you going to Anaheim for ALA Annual? We are looking for 6 presenters to share cool work that they are doing right now! LITA Program Planning Committee is hosting Lightning Round Presentations at the conference on Monday, 6/25/12, between 8-10 a.m. Presenters will have the opportunity to give 10-12 minute presentations (with 5 minutes for questions after each presentation) on current technology uses in libraries.

We're getting close to June, so please verify that you'll be attending the conference before signing up.

Proposals are due Monday, May 7, 2012 by midnight. Acceptances will be sent out by the end of May 2012.
