CFP: Codices and Communities (Medieval and Early Modern Institute Graduate Student Colloquium)
The Medieval and Early Modern Institute invites submissions for their 6th Annual Interdisciplinary Graduate Student Colloquium – Codices and Communities: Material, Book and Print Culture and their Medieval and Early Modern Contexts – December 4-5, 2008 at the University of Alberta. Dr. Erik Kwakkel, from the University of Victoria, will be giving the keynote address entitled “Lost in Translation: Michael Scot and the Oldest Manuscript of his Abbreviatio Avicenne.” Several travel subsidies are available.

The deadline for session proposals is: Monday, December 1, 2008.
Plans are well underway for the Society of Southwest Archivist’s 2009 Annual Meeting in Shreveport, Louisiana. Laura McLemore and her enthusiastic Local Arrangements Committee are planning an exciting meeting revolving around the theme, Into the Future Full Steam Ahead! Attendees at the Shreveport meeting will experience lots of Southern hospitality peppered with local culture – art, music, film, and architecture.
The 2009 SSA Program Committee invites your proposals for program sessions. Full proposals are encouraged. Sessions are scheduled for 90 minutes and typically include three papers though panel discussions or other formats are also welcome. For proposals, include title and brief description of the session; titles and brief descriptions of each paper; names of session organizer and each presenter including affiliation; address, email address and phone numbers for all. Also include audio-visual equipment needs for the session, and whether or not session presenters will provide their own equipment. Individual papers may also be submitted with complete information included in the proposal. The committee may form sessions based on individual papers submitted.

ACRL invites applications for the position of editor of Rare Books & Manuscripts (RBM)
ACRL invites applications and nominations for the position of editor of Rare Books & Manuscripts (RBM), the biannual, scholarly research journal of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). The editor is appointed for a three-year term, which may be renewed for an additional three years. Applicants must be a member of ALA and ACRL.
Qualifications include professional experience in academic libraries, a record of scholarly publication, editing experience, an ability to meet publication deadlines, an understanding of the scholarly communication process, and a broad knowledge of the issues confronting academic libraries.
Appointment will be made by the ACRL Board of Directors at the 2008 Annual Conference upon the recommendation of the search committee and of the ACRL Publications Committee. The incoming editor will assume full responsibility upon appointment in July 2008.
