In a world where funding is decreasing and demand is increasing, libraries and librarians are looking for ways to provide access to content without submitting their bottom line to costly and sometimes little-used online journal subscriptions.

The ALCTS CCS Electronic Resources Interest Group invites proposals for its panel discussion at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago, on Saturday, July 11, 2009, from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

The discussion will center on the experiences of libraries and electronic resources librarians as they implement and manage transactional access models at their institutions. The panelists will
discuss why transactional access was right for their institution, the driving forces behind their decisions, the implementation process, technical implementation and management of the access, and the outcomes of their endeavors. The panelist presentations will be followed with a question and answer session, as well as an open forum for audience members to share their experience(s) with the session participants.

CFP: Effects of current recession/budget crisis on libraries (The Bottom Line)

_The Bottom Line: Managing Library Finances_ will be publishing a special issue(s) on the effect of the current global economic recession on libraries. The editor is looking for articles from all types of libraries: public, academic, private, special, corporate, etc. Articles that deal with managing layoffs, permanent cuts to staffing and collections, innovative collaborative and cooperative arrangements between and among libraries and/or other organizations because of budget cuts(including shared print, cataloging, collection building, etc.), and organizational change and/or strategic planning in a time of dramatic budget cuts are especially encouraged. Articles can be of any length, and figures and screen shots are encouraged.

If you are interested in contributing, please send the editor your name, a short proposal of the topic, and a tentative title for the article. Deadline for proposals is March 1, 2009. Articles would be due to the editor by July 1, 2009. Any questions can be directed to the editor.

CFP: Case Studies in Management and Finance in Academic Libraries (The Bottom Line)

The Bottom Line: Managing Library Finances is publishing a special issue of the journal on case studies in management and finance in academic libraries. We are especially looking for examples of reorganization, repositioning, and retraining of people and resources, as well as new initiatives and directions that required strategic thinking and risk taking in the areas of dropping traditional library roles and moving into new future digital environments (which may include
things like 3D information visualization, strategic collaborations across disciplines and organizations, etc.). If you think that you would be interested in submitting an article to this peer-reviewed special issue of this journal, please contact the editor directly (email given below). Any and all ideas for topics will be given consideration.

Article proposals will be accepted through February 1, 2007. Proposals need only include author name(s) and contact information, and a brief paragraph stating what the article will be about.

Deadline for completion of articles will be no later than May 1, 2007.
