CFP: Reference Services Review Special Issue on the role of the library in campus-wide retention efforts (new deadline - 12/3/2012)

CFP: Reference Services Review Special Issue on the role of the library in campus-wide retention efforts (new deadline - 12/3/2012)

Reference Services Review (RSR) is seeking authors to write on the theme of the role of the library in campus-wide retention efforts – Volume 41 Number 1, will be published in February 2013. First drafts of manuscripts will be due by December 3, 2012. Manuscripts are evaluated using a double-blind peer review process. Authors can expect to work on major and /or minor revisions in the first part of the 2013.

The journal is pre-published through Emerald EarlyCite http://www.emeraldinsight.com/authors/writing/earlycite.htm?PHPSESSID=2rl81bpeu186f25o4og6j29p61 and issues are made available before the official publication date.

More details about the journal, including author guidelines are at:  http://www.emeraldinsight.com/rsr.htm

With national attention focused on performance levels of higher education institutions, many colleges and universities are focusing on Retention, Progression, and Graduation (RPG) efforts. While the campus library is often included in tours when new potential students are recruited, the library and its services are an integral part of retaining those students and helping them progress toward graduation.

In this issue of RSR, the intersection of the library with these larger campus wide efforts will be explored.

Paper topics might include, but are not limited to:

  • The role of the library with Summer Bridge or College Transition programs
  • Library involvement in new student recruitment
  • Research demonstrating a connection between information literacy instruction and student success
  • Role of the library in retention of specific student populations (distance, nontraditional, at-risk, etc)
  • Non-academic programming in libraries (working with other campus agencies)
  • Academic success of student library workers

The co-editors for this special issue are: Anne Barnhart and Andrea Stanfield from the University of West Georgia. Please send expressions of interest, abstracts, or inquiries to:  rsrlibraryrpg@gmail.com

CFP IASSIST 2013: Call for Papers and Workshops

CFP IASSIST 2013: Call for Papers and Workshops

The IASSIST 2013 Conference Program Committee and Workshop Coordinator are now ready to begin accepting proposals!

IASSIST 2013 will be hosted by GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences at Maternushaus in Cologne, Germany from May 28-31!http://www.iassist2013.org/iassist-2013-home/

The theme of this year’s conference is Data Innovation: Increasing Accessibility, Visibility and Sustainability
This theme reflects recent efforts across the globe by the largest government agencies down to the smaller independent research units to make data (be it survey, administrative, geospatial, or scientific) more open, accessible and understandable for all.
With an ever-increasing availability of new technologies offering unparalleled opportunities to sustainably deliver, share, model and visualize data, we anticipate that there is much to share with and much to learn from one another.  Interdisciplinarity is a large part of where innovation comes from, and we hope to receive submissions from those in the social sciences, humanities, sciences, and computer science fields.
We welcome submissions on the theme outlined above, and encourage conference participants to propose papers and sessions that would be of interest to a diverse audience. In order to make session formation and scheduling more streamlined, we have created three distinct tracks.  If you are not sure where your submission fits, or feel that it fits into more than one track, that’s perfectly fine. Please do still make your submission, and if accepted, we will find an appropriate fit.
Online submission forms and guidelines for BOTH conference content and workshops can be found here: http://www.iassist2013.org/conference/calls/

NOTE: The top of the page is for sessions/papers/posters/round tables/pecha kuchas the bottom is for workshops – please note that the submission forms are completely separate.

All submissions are due by December 5, 2012.  Notification of acceptance will be made by February 5, 2012
Questions about session/paper submissions may be sent to iassist.twentythirteen@gmail.com
Questions about workshop submission may be sent to the Workshop Coordinator, Lynda Kellam at lmkellam@uncg.edu

Call to Submit a Short Article to Academic BRASS!

Call to Submit a Short Article to Academic BRASS!

Interested in seeing your name in print? Want to add another line to your c.v.? Have something to share with other business librarians?

Articles are not formal scholarly articles and you can share your knowledge on a topic you probably know about already.

The Business Reference in Academic Libraries Committee of BRASS is seeking articles for the next issue of its online publication Academic BRASS. Academic BRASS is a newsletter--not a journal--that publishes issue-based articles and information for the general and educational interest of BRASS members and academic business librarians.

Topics of interest to the editor are pedagogy and business librarians, teaching business literacy in the wake of the financial crisis and resources for entrepreneurship. Book and database reviews are always welcome as well.

Maybe you have another cool idea – that’s fine too – get those submissions in!

You may want to see previous editions of BRASS.

For the full text of these articles and access to past issues of Academic BRASS, see
http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/rusa/sections/brass/brasspubs/academicbrass/academicbrass.cfm.

The typical length of an Academic BRASS article is 500-800 words, but past articles have been as long as 1,000 words or more.

All articles are subject to editing for length, style, and content. The newsletter follows the Modern Language Association Handbook, seventh edition for all matters of style and citation. Authors whose articles include
references to print or internet resources should observe the conventions set forth in the handbook or on the MLA web site (http://www.mla.org/style).

Article proposals are due Friday, December 1, 2012. Please send them to Charles Allan, chair of the Committee, at ca20@txstate.edu

Completed articles will be due Friday, January 4, 2013. Charles Allan Academic BRASS editor
