CFP: Journal of Business & Finance Librarianship Issue on Business Librarianship and Entrepreneurship Outreach
CFP: Journal of Business & Finance Librarianship Issue on Business Librarianship and Entrepreneurship Outreach
Special Issue on Business Librarianship and Entrepreneurship Outreach
The Journal of Business & Finance Librarianship, a refereed quarterly for librarians and information specialists in academic, private/corporate business libraries, as well public libraries, welcomes the submission of original articles on the topic of Business Librarianship and Entrepreneurship Outreach.
Overview
Entrepreneurship is a major source of innovation, economic growth and new job creation. The increasing importance of entrepreneurial firms as “engines” of economic growth has lead to an enhanced interest by policy makers, regulators and academics. Entrepreneurship programs have rapidly increased on university campuses –both in business schools and engineering, science, education and fine arts curriculums.
The immediate focus of the journal is practice-oriented articles, but it also provides an outlet for new empirical studies on business librarianship and business information. This special issue looks to gather together best practice in this area in the form of case studies, research articles and review papers.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
· Library outreach to small business and start-up companies
· Library collaboration with business schools and/or community agencies
· Library roles in entrepreneurship experiential learning programs
· Information resource bibliographies
· Book and product reviews
The above list is not intended to be prescriptive and the Special Issue is happy to consider a wide range of topics. If writers are in any doubt whether a potential topic is suitable please contact the Special Issue Editors:
Hal Kirkwood, MLIS
kirkwood@purdue.edu
Karen I. MacDonald, MBA, MLIS
kimacdonald@gsu.edu
Submissions
Authors should follow the Instructions for Authors as published in the Journal of Business & Finance Librarianship. Abstracts or paper outlines should be submitted by October 31, 2008. Abstracts will be reviewed for suitability by the Special Issue Editors. Completed papers should be submitted by March 30, 2009.
Electronic submissions are preferred. Please send as a Word file attachment to the editors at kirkwood@purdue.edu and kimacdonald@gsu.edu

CFP: Entrepreneurism in Libraries
CFP: Entrepreneurism in Libraries
To all Librarians, Entrepreneurs, and Innovators:
We seek pioneers, adventurers and inventors to tell their stories. The libraries of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Wake Forest University are organizing a conference entitled, "Inspiration, Innovation, Celebration: an Entrepreneurial Conference for Librarians".
We strive to provide a forum for you to share your path to change.
Conference dates: June 3rd and 4th, 2009 in the Elliott University Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
The mission for this conference is threefold:
1) To share and celebrate entrepreneurial accomplishments in libraries
2) To inspire each other to innovate in our libraries
3) To create a community of interested librarians who will perpetuate the discussion beyond the conference
Entrepreneurial activity may have taken place in areas such as: instruction, services, processes, facilities or resources, but this list is not exhaustive. We're interested in hearing about your process and the successful presentation could include the following:
* Identification of an unmet need or development of an innovative approach that extends the scope of service
* A non-traditional approach to fulfilling our mission as libraries
* A description of how a solution was designed and implemented including any obstacles that were encountered (financial, structural, human...)
* A discussion of lessons learned or what you would do differently next time and the project's current status
* A description of the keys to success
* A tone that inspires us all to become more entrepreneurial in our libraries, however small the project
Format:
* Sessions should be one hour in length to include 45 minute presentation with 15 minutes for Q&A.
* We will accept panel discussions
Timing:
* If interested, submit a letter of intent - a one paragraph description of your presentation - immediately. Those who submit a letter of intent by September 1st will receive priority consideration.
* Please submit your final proposal by 5:00 pm on Monday 1 November 2008; it should include a detailed outline of the presentation with a textual description of the entrepreneurial project.
* Photos, drawings or other multi-media aids are welcome; display space will be available at the conference.
* Invitations to present will be delivered by mid-December

Call for Contributions: Biographical Dictionary of New Chinese Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders
Call for Contributions: Biographical Dictionary of New Chinese Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders
Scheduled to be published by Edward Elgar in 2008-09, the Biographical Dictionary of New Chinese Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders will provide up-to-date and comprehensive coverage of major players of Chinese economy since the reform era began in 1978. Edited by Professors Wenxian Zhang and Ilan Alon of Rollins College, the emphasis of the reference book is on the movers and shakers of China’s new economy, highlighting notable figures from both the initial economic liberalization period and the renewed growth from the early 1990s to the present time. The geographic focus of the book will be the mainland China, and the majority of the subjects are mainland Chinese, defined as those who were born and brought up in China, no matter what passports they might hold today. The selection will be based mainly on the roles an individual played in the Chinese economic development, and people from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and other parts of the world who conduct significant business in the People’s Republic of China will also be included.
The biographical dictionary will contain 150-200 entries, each should be 300-1,000 words in length, briefly summarizing an individual’s life and careers, with a central focus on his or her accomplishments and the key roles played in the new Chinese economy. Three to five references should be provided at the end of each entry. Potential contributors may view the list of available entries at: web.rollins.edu/~wzhang/nce.htm. You may suggest other entrepreneurs or business leaders not listed along with a justification to the editors. Each contributor is expected to write five entries and 2,500 words, and, in return, will receive contributor acknowledgment in each entry and a copy of the dictionary when it is published. All entry assignments are due November 30, 2007 in Microsoft Word format. For additional information and entry assignments, please contact the editors at the email addresses below:
