Call for Submissions – Rethinking Resource Sharing Innovation Awards
DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MARCH 30, 2009!!
The Rethinking Resource Sharing Initiative was started to advocate for a complete rethink of the way libraries conduct resource sharing in the context of the global internet revolution. In order to showcase resource sharing innovation, the Rethinking Resource Sharing Initiative has created an award to encourage libraries and librarians all over the world to make changes in how they do resource sharing and improve service to users.
Up to three winning submissions will be awarded a cash prize of $1,000 each. Recipients will be announced at the Rethinking Resource Sharing Forum 2009 on May 13 and 14, 2009 in Dublin, OH. Funding for the 2009 Innovation Awards is provided by the Alliance of Library Service Networks www.librarynetworks.org, a group of U.S. independent regional networks that includes Amigos, BCR, FEDLINK, ILLINET, INCOLSA, MINITEX, MLC, MLNC, NELINET, Nylink, OHIONET, PALINET, SOLINET, and WiLS. The Nebraska Library Commission is also a member.
To be considered for the award, please submit a description of the user-centric service change you have made that has improved resource sharing in your library, consortium or state. Full details for submission can be found at www.rethinkingresourcesharing.org.
The deadline for applications/nominations is March 30, 2009. (post-mark or date of e-mail).

The Journal of Library Innovation is seeking submissions for publication for its inaugural issue in January 2010.
The Journal of Library Innovation, one of the first journals devoted explicitly to innovation and creativity in libraries, is a peer reviewed, electronic journal published by the Western New York Library Resources Council. Its mission is to disseminate research and information on innovative practice in libraries of all types.
Innovation in libraries can include, but is not limited to the following:
•The discovery of unmet user needs.
•The introduction of new services or the retooling of traditional services resulting in a better user experience.
•Creative collaboration between libraries, or between libraries and other types of institutions, resulting in demonstrable improvements in service to users.
•Implementing new technologies to improve and extend library service to meet user needs.
•Explorations of the future of libraries.
•Pilot testing unconventional ideas and services.
•Redefining the roles of library staff to better serve users.
•Developing processes that encourage organizational innovation.
•Reaching out to and engaging library users and non-users in new and creative ways.
•Creative library instruction and patron programming.
•Finding new ways to make library collections or library facilities more useful.
The Journal of Library Innovation publishes original research, literature reviews, commentaries, case studies, reports on innovative practices, and book, conference and product reviews.
The journal also welcomes provocative essays that will stimulate thought on the current and future role of libraries in an Internet Age.

The Collection Development & Management Interest Group of the Canadian Library Association seeks proposals for papers that deal with a “Collections in times of innovation and change” theme or other collections-related topics and should result in a presentation of about 30 minutes in length. Each presentation should feature one or two speakers. Papers with broad applications or with applications to more than one library sector or community of users will be given preference. Panel proposals will also be considered. Proposals will be reviewed by a committee of three collections librarians.

CFP: KLA-MPLA Joint Conference "Libraries: Dynamic People, Places & Ideas"
Has your library solved a problem that still plagues others? Have you discovered or heard about a better way than the same old way it's always been done before? Do you have insight or data that would help libraries become even more effective? See clarity where others find only confusion? If so, please share your solution, discovery, insight, data, or vision by presenting at the 2009 KLA-MPLA Joint Conference "Libraries: Dynamic People, Places & Ideas,"which will be held April 1-3, 2009 in Wichita, KS at the Hyatt Regency and Century II Convention Center.
To propose a program or pre-conference simply submit the online program proposal form by Oct 31, 2008 (http://www.kansaslibraryassociation.org/displayemailforms.cfm?emailformnbr=94133). A committee of five academic librarians will review all academic track proposals in early November and send notifications of acceptance by the end of the month. This is a continuation of the peer-review/jury process that was successfully implemented last year to enhance incentives for presenting at KLA's annual conference.

Call for Contributors: Librarians Beyond the Circ Desk: Innovative Librarianship Today
Please consider contributing to Librarians Beyond the Circ Desk: Innovative Librarianship Today on children's programs, hosting exhibitions, and other complimentary activities furthering librarianship; McFarland is the publisher.
Contributions from public, school, academic, special librarians - one 1250 word article or two articles each 1250 words, are invited. Please stick to about 1250 words. Each "how-to" article will showcase the creativity of contemporary U.S. librarians. Those having two articles accepted receive a complimentary book.
For example, if you design software and are an experienced grants writer, each could be a topic for an article; another combination could be setting up a new library, innovative story hours. Co-authoring is invited. Please e-mail some topics as soon as possible and a 50-55 word bio with your present position, highlights as a librarian to receive feedback.
Article(s) deadline is April 15, 2007. Bullets, headings are encouraged for clarity, conciseness a basic.
